Manchester United could emend huge transfer error, director confirms “difficult” negotiations
Top Manchester United target Jamal Musiala has several European clubs on notice following details of his “difficult” contract negotiations with Bayern Munich.
Musiala, 21, has emerged as one of the finest players in world football over the last few seasons, cementing himself as an integral part of both the Bayern Munich and Germany set-ups.
But, having been part of both Chelsea and Southampton’s academies, Musiala has repeatedly been linked with a move back to England.
One side who are keen on securing Musiala’s signature is Manchester United, with Erik ten Hag’s team being longstanding admirers of the talented attacking midfielder.
Before Musiala departed Chelsea’s academy for Germany, United had considered bringing the then-teenager on trial, but the deal fell through.
According to the Athletic, Red Devils’ youth scout, Andreas Herrmann, was said to be very impressed with the midfielder, yet the move fell through.
This was because a deal for Musiala, who was uncertain at the time over which nation he would represent at senior, was seen as difficult to pursue. With United conscious of regulations, they elected to pass on a move for Musiala.
It was added that the deal for Musiala – who was weighing up which nation to represent – had complications, and United, who were conscious of regulations, decided that entering the running for the midfielder would be too risky.
Now, six years later, it seems United will have the chance to attempt to rectify their former mistakes. This is a result of Bayern Munich director Max Eberl confirming that contract discussions between Musiala and Bayern have so far been “difficult.”
Speaking with Sport1, Eberl discussed the current state of affairs for the negotiations between the two sides.
“It’s difficult, but not impossible – as Jamal knows what he has at Bayern Munich,” Eberl explained. “He grew up here and has brought himself to this level. Talks are intensifying. We are extremely ambitious and he knows that he wants to win titles.”
According to reports, Musiala’s wage demands are one of the big stumbling blocks currently, with it indicated that he wishes to be paid similarly to star striker Harry Kane.
At just 21 years old, Musiala’s time with Bayern has already been riddled with accomplishments and major honours.
The 36-time capped Germany international has won ten major honours with Bayern, including four Bundesliga trophies.
In addition, Musiala has on two occasions been named as part of the Bundesliga Team of the Season, as well as being the joint top scorer at this summer’s Euro 2024 tournament.
