Manchester United duo told ‘most likely transfer path’ after 58-game failure and £12.9m bid

Two of Manchester United’s current players have been informed of their most likely transfer paths amid a £12.9 million transfer bid.

Manchester United are set for a major overhaul this summer following a disappointing campaign and the absence of European competition.

Rúben Amorim has already completed deals for Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon, and is still pushing to sign Bryan Mbeumo. Any additional arrivals will likely depend on player sales.

The club are looking to move on several players, including Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Jadon Sancho, though efforts to offload them have so far proven difficult.

Rashford is reportedly close to joining Barcelona, Sancho is said to have agreed personal terms with Juventus, and Antony is keen on a return to Real Betis.

Rashford and Sancho informed of most likely transfer paths

In 2021, Sancho and Rashford were touted to become Manchester United’s dynamic wing pairing for the next decade. Still, just four season later, both players were on loan at Chelsea and Aston Villa, respectively.

The pair appeared a combined 58 times while on loan from Old Trafford, and for the most part, failed to impress. Former Premier League defender Glen Johnson now believes that the two players are destined to move to Europe.

“There looks to be quite a few Manchester United players who are not in Rúben Amorim’s plans and destined for a summer exit. Two of those are Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford,” Johnson said.

“Both players spent last season on loan, Sancho tried at Chelsea, and Rashford had a brief stint at Aston Villa, but neither managed to fully rediscover their form or force a way back into United’s plans.

“Realistically, even though both these players clearly have ability, those loan spells haven’t worked. They can’t get into the United team, and I doubt any of the Premier League big guns will be looking at them.

“Where these guys go is completely up to them. It all depends on how much motivation they’ve got left, what level they want to push themselves to, and which manager takes an interest in them. But, most likely, I can see a move abroad for both Sancho and Rashford.

“We’ve seen more and more English players making that move to other European leagues in recent years, and this might be the best and most likely path for them now.”

What’s the latest on Sancho and Rashford’s futures?

For Sancho, it looks as if he is almost sure to sign for Juventus this summer, as long as United can come to a reasonable transfer agreement with the Serie A giants.

Reports have stated that the Turin side have launched an £8.6 million transfer bid with a further £4.3 million in add-ons, but the total £12.9 million bid is only around half of what United are asking for.

Meanwhile, after missing out on Nico Williams and the chances of signing Luis Diaz from Liverpool slim, Barcelona are reportedly willing to go “all in” on signing Rashford.

While it was previously touted that Barcelona would only be willing to secure the player on loan, with the £60 million they had set aside for Williams now free to be spent elsewhere, they could come close to matching United’s £40 million asking price for Rashford, instead.
