Manchester United could attempt an ambitious £20million hijack in January. It would show a great amount of intent if they could pull it off.
Manchester United spent their summer transfer window reinforcing their attack, as well as finding new clubs for the forwards whose time at the club had ran its course.
As well as this, Ruben Amorim’s side also made changes to their goalkeeping department, replacing Andre Onana with 23-year-old Belgian, Senne Lammens.
Despite much speculation, the Reds made no additions to both their defensive and midfield departments, mainly due to a lack of European football, meaning that additional depth is less of a necessity.
Although Amorim’s side have made no additions to their backline, it may be wise for them to think about future acquisitions, especially if they are to climb back up the Premier League table into the European spots.
Guehi available for cut-price
It has been reported by El Nacional, via Fichajes, that Barcelona have identified Marc Guehi as their top target for 2026, and they are potentially looking at a move for the centre-back in January.
This report also states that Crystal Palace may be open to considering an offer for less than £20million in January to avoid losing their captain for free in the summer.
Liverpool were very close to acquiring the services of Guehi on deadline day, but as the Eagles were unable to replace their capatain, the deal fell through.
The league champions are expected to wait for Guehi to become a free agent now, before moving for him in the summer, although this should be something United look to hijack.
Why United should move for Guehi
With Liverpool waiting on the England centre-back, this presents United with the perfect chance to make a statement with an ambitious hijack.
As United’s defensive leader, Harry Maguire, is in his final year of his contract, Guehi would be the ideal like-for-like replacement for the Reds, if a deal is at all possible.
It is still likely that Guehi ends up as a Liverpool player by the time next summer comes about, but if there is any chance that United can make a move for the talented 25-year-old, then they need to test the waters.
