Manchester United confirmed squad vs Athletic Club in Europa League decider with surprise inclusion

Manchester United’s matchday squad to face Athletic Club has been confirmed ahead of the Europa League semi-final second-leg at Old Trafford.

After a commanding first-leg display in Bilbao, Manchester United return to Old Trafford this week holding a comfortable three-goal cushion in their Europa League semi-final clash.

The 3-0 advantage, secured with goals from Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro, puts Ruben Amorim’s side in a strong position, but they remain mindful that Athletic Club won’t bow out quietly. The Spanish side played most of the first half with 10 men, and they are expected to approach the return leg with renewed intensity.

United understand that complacency can be costly in football. Their priority will be to stay composed, limit Athletic’s opportunities, and book their place in the final—set to be played later this month in Bilbao.

On the other side, Athletic Club will be going all out in search of a comeback, pulling out all the stops to overturn the deficit against the Premier League side.

Eriksen included in United squad despite missing training

Kobbie Mainoo will be hoping to make an impact after scoring a stunner in the last Europa League clash at Old Trafford. He turned up to the stadium alongside Leny Yoro, Noussair Mazraoui and Luke Shaw.

Christian Eriksen has turned up with the squad, which was somewhat surprising to see after he missed training on Wednesday afternoon.

In terms of youth players, it was interesting to see Chido Obi arrive with the group. Despite the fact he is not registered to play, Amorim clearly wants the youngster to get that extra experience being amongst the squad.

Bendito Mantato was alongside the young striker and he is eligible to play. He will likely be on the bench and hoping for a debut in the second half. Harry Amass and Tyler Fredricson are also in the squad.
