Manchester United have all but confirmed a new goalkeeper will be joining the club in the coming days amid the need for fresh reinforcements.
It has been well documented that Manchester United need to sign a new goalkeeper this summer amid the continuing woes of André Onana and Altay Bayındır.
Rúben Amorim’s current goalkeeping options consist of Onana, Bayındır, and 39-year-old Tom Heaton, all three of whom have failed to show signs of being the world-class shotstopper that Amorim so desperately needs at Old Trafford.
Bayındır has started United’s three Premier League games this season but has made mistakes in every game, while Onana’s single appearance led to a loss against League Two side Grimsby Town.
With fewer than two days left in the transfer window, United are working on multiple transfers to ensure a new goalkeeper is signed before Monday evening.
United make fresh Martínez approach
United were linked with Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez for large portions of the early sections of the transfer window, with the “world-class” star very keen on a move to Old Trafford.
It has been widely reported that the 33-year-old views this summer as his final opportunity to secure a move to a major European club and considers United his ideal destination.
United enquired about signing the player on loan earlier in the window, but Villa rebuffed this. Following this, talks of Martínez signing under Amorim cooled.
In an incredible turn of events, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, United have now made a fresh approach for the goalkeeper in the final two days of the window, having spoken to both Villa and the player’s camp.
Talks for Lammens remain ongoing
Despite this approach, Romano clarifies that United remain in talks with Royal Antwerp for 23-year-old goalkeeper Senne Lammens, who is widely regarded as one of the most promising shot-stoppers in his age group.

It was reported on Saturday, before kick-off against Burnley, that both United and Antwerp were finally closing in on a possible transfer. Still, with just hours remaining in the transfer window, there is no guarantee that the move will pull through.
United’s contact with Martínez, given the player’s keenness to move, confirms the club’s intention to bring in a new goalkeeper before the deadline passes, with Amorim in desperate need of a more solid figure at the back.
With Onana and Bayındır both failing to instil confidence in the side and the fanbase across the last two years, the club must secure a new No. 1.
