Manchester United confirm Diogo Dalot kit change as five players handed new numbers

Manchester United have confirmed a change in Diogo Dalot’s kit number as Rúben Amorim welcomes a host of first-team players back to Carrington.

Rúben Amorim’s squad returned to Carrington on Monday as Manchester United kicked off their preparations for the 2025/26 season.

New signing Matheus Cunha was among those in attendance for the first day of training, joined by Joshua Zirkzee, Mason Mount, and several others.

A number of senior players, including Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro, rejoined the group on Thursday after being granted extended time off due to international duty.

United’s pre-season tour begins on 19 July with a clash against Leeds United in Sweden, before the squad head to the United States for matches against Bournemouth, West Ham, and Everton.

The final pre-season fixture will take place at Old Trafford against Fiorentina the weekend before the Premier League campaign begins, with United set to host Arsenal on Sunday, 17 August.

United confirm Dalot shirt number change

With many players departing the club this summer, there has been a little reshuffle of the first-team members with respect to squad numbers for the coming season.

Diogo Dalot, who has played 35 games under Amorim and is a trusted senior member of the squad, has been handed the No. 2 shirt after the departure of Victor Lindelöf.

The 26-year-old Portuguese international had held the No. 20 kit since his arrival in 2018. He will now be upgraded to a well-respected kit number at United, previously held by the likes of Denis Irwin and Gary Neville.

Although it is yet to be confirmed, there is also the potential for young striker Chido Obi to be handed a fresh number to reflect his rise to United’s first-team squad.

Four other kit number changes confirmed

In addition to Dalot and Obi, Manchester United have announced that three more Academy players have received upgraded squad numbers ahead of the new season.

Promising forward Shea Lacey has moved from No. 72 to No. 61, while defender Reece Munro has changed from No. 79 to No. 65. Winger Bendito Mantato, who recently signed a four-year professional deal, has been promoted from No. 80 to No. 75.

Meanwhile, new signing Cunha has been given the No. 10 shirt following Marcus Rashford’s expected departure.

As for recent arrival Diego Leon, his squad number remains unconfirmed, with speculation suggesting he may be waiting to take over from Kobbie Mainoo, who currently wears No. 37.
