Manchester United chiefs warn Ruben Amorim about one ‘non-negotiable’ this season after horror start

Manchester United chiefs have warned Ruben Amorim about one non-negotiable’ for this season after the team’s horror start to the campaign.

Manchester United began their campaign with a 1-0 defeat to Arsenal, but despite the loss, there were encouraging signs in what was a strong display.

Their next outing saw them travel to Fulham, where they were held to a 1-1 draw. While the result earned them a point, the performance raised more concerns than it offered reassurance.

Things went from bad to worse in the Carabao Cup, as United suffered a humiliating penalty shootout defeat to League Two side Grimsby Town. Having fallen 2-0 behind, they were fortunate to even take the tie beyond 90 minutes.

After what appeared to be an extremely positive pre-season tour, Amorim already seems to be under huge pressure once again and the team has to find a way to get consistent results moving forward.

United chiefs warn Amorim about one ‘non-negotiable’ this season

Amorim arrived at Carrington at 7am on Thursday morning after the team’s horror game against Grimsby and he will be thinking how he can turn things around at Old Trafford.

The Reds face Burnley at home on Saturday afternoon before the international break and the first game back is away at Manchester City.

According to reports from Dean Jones, the United hierarchy have warned Amorim that qualification for Europe is ‘non-negotiable’ this term.

It is likely that the top five teams in the Premier League will qualify for the Champions League again this season. Winning the FA Cup also provides a space in the Europa League.

Amorim must change something soon

For supporters, results are obviously important and we have not seen enough positive ones under Amorim since he arrived.

But there needs to be progress made in terms of how the team play too. It is starting to feel that the only way that happens is by him changing some tactics.

That doesn’t necessarily mean he must change formation, even though that is something that many fans would like to see.

Yet there needs to be changes somewhere if the United boss is going to be able to turn things around, because he might not even get the chance to finish the season if things don’t improve quickly.
