Manchester United chiefs have reportedly sent a two-word message to Joshua Zirkzee ahead of the January transfer window.
Joshua Zirkzee’s spell at Manchester United has been far from straightforward. The Dutch forward arrived from Bologna under Erik ten Hag, only for the former Ajax boss to be replaced by Rúben Amorim a few months later.
Initially, Zirkzee found himself behind Rasmus Højlund in the striker hierarchy, and that situation didn’t change until early 2025. Just as he began to show signs of good form, he suffered a hamstring injury against Newcastle United that effectively curtailed his season. His only appearance afterwards came as a substitute in the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur.
He went on to miss United’s post-season tour in Asia, as well as the entire pre-season programme, including fixtures in the United States and at Old Trafford.
Zirkzee has yet to start a match this season and is now being linked with a potential January departure from the club with Benjamin Šeško ahead of him in the pecking order.
United chiefs send Zirkzee two-word message
Due to his limited game-time at Old Trafford, Zirkzee has reportedly been considering an exit in the upcoming January transfer window.
The striker wants to play for the Netherlands at the World Cup next year but he can only push for a place in the squad if he is playing consistent football.
Nevertheless, according to The Sun, United chiefs have told Zirkzee that there is “no chance” of him leaving the club in January.
Even though he has not started a game for United this season, Zirkzee will be needed throughout the campaign, with the likes of Amad and Bryan Mbeumo set to leave for AFCON next month.
Šeško’s recent injury is not believed to be long-term but could still afford Zirkzee extra chances in the team, which he will be hoping to take with both hands.
Zirkzee can link up with new signings
Zirkzee is not a natural no.9 and will not thrive if long balls are being played into him, but the 24-year-old can shine when the ball is at his feet.
We are also yet to see how the Dutchman can truly link up with the new attackers in United’s squad. Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha would appreciate Zirkzee’s ability to keep things ticking.

With it seeming very unlikely that he departs, Zirkzee will hopefully be able to show some of the form which saw him become a fan-favourite before his injury last term.
