Manchester United chiefs feel ‘justified’ for going against Rúben Amorim transfer wish, “he means business…”

Manchester United’s chiefs reportedly feel justified in their recent decision to sign Senne Lammens following the Belgian star’s debut last weekend.

Senne Lammens was finally able to make his Manchester United debut as Rúben Amorim’s men convincingly defeated Sunderland in a 2-0 win at Old Trafford.

Goals from Mason Mount and Benjamin Šeško, as well as Lammens keeping a clean sheet, rounded out a perfect afternoon in Manchester for the Reds, with the latter receiving signifiacnt praise for his astute display.

The 23-year-old was strong and commanding in his box, claimed the two high balls he rushed out to take, and made some good saves to keep Régis Le Bris’ men at bay.

There was one moment of slight panic after a wind-affected ball caught both him and Bruno Fernandes off guard, but the half-chance for Sunderland did not amount to anything, and Lammens was spotless for the remainder of the game.

United feel jusified for going against Amorim’s wish

When United’s summer transfer plans were laid out, a new goalkeeper was not on the club’s agenda. But, following an injury to André Onana and unconvincing displays from Altay Bayındır, this all changed, and Lammens was signed on deadline day for £18.2 million from Royal Antwerp.

When it became clear that a new shot-stopper was needed, reports suggested that Amorim wanted – and still wants – a more experienced player than Lammens, but United opted against this.

The club were closely linked with 33-year-old goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez from Aston Villa, but against Amorim’s wish to sign the latter, the club’s chiefs opted for Lammens.

One month into the Belgian’s time at Old Trafford, iSport report that they “feel thoroughly justified” in signing him over Amorim’s wish to secure Martínez and have been “mightily impressed” with the 23-year-old thus far.

Lammens setting the standards at Carrington

It took around a month for Lammens to make his debut for the Reds, but in that period, there was plenty of commentary from the club’s internal media that he had been “outstanding” in training across September.

iSport further reveals that sources within Carrington have had nothing but praise for Lammens. “He is first one into training and last one out,” one source reportedly stated.

“He does extra sessions all the time, too, whether that is working on his distribution or other things. It is hardly groundbreaking to come in and work this hard initially, but it certainly sets the tone. He means business.”

Furthermore, it’s detailed that within five weeks of arriving in Manchester, Lammens has already arranged his own private accommodation, rather than being accommodated in the club’s usual luxury suites in the city centre.

Those within United feel he is “better equipped” than his predecessors, such as Onana and Bayındır, to handle the pressure of United.

United have shown their clear faith in Lammens by going against Amorim’s wishes and taking a leap of faith on the 23-year-old, and so far, there are indications that their gamble may pay off.
