Manchester United chief delivers statement on Chido Obi-Martin and two other exciting talents
One Manchester United chief has delivered a statement on Chido Obi-Martin and two other exciting talents at Carrington.
While Manchester United were focusing on adding to Erik ten Hag’s squad in the summer, with five first-team signings, there was also a clear vision to bring in Academy talent.
Chido Obi-Martin, James Overy and Samuel Lusale were the three main talents signed for the youth system this summer, with Obi-Martin potentially closer to first-team football.
Obi Martin, a highly talented 16-year-old striker, joined Arsenal’s academy at 14 after starting his football journey at Danish club Kjøbenhavns Boldklub.
Obi Martin showcased his goal-scoring prowess last term by netting 10 goals in a single match for the Under-16s against Liverpool and tallying 32 goals in the U18 Premier League.
Fabrizio Romano has recently claimed that this is an approach the club want to continue, with eyes already on potential signings for the future in 2025.
Nick Cox welcomes Obi-Martin, Lusale and Overy
Nick Cox, Manchester United’s Head of Academy, wrote about the additions of these three talented teenagers in his latest column for the club.
The youth expert, who worked closely with the likes of Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo before their respective first-team rises, has explained that the trio join United’s ‘Professional Development Phase’ and will be given time to adjust to their new life at the club.
Cox also congratulated all three of the young players and shined focus on the recruitment team for getting the deals over the line.
“We welcome Samuel Lusale, Chido Obi-Martin and James Overy to the club,” wrote Cox.
“All three young players will join up with our Professional Development Phase as they adjust to life in Manchester and become acquainted with their new team-mates.
“It can be a difficult process for some players, while others slot right in. Whatever the scenario, our staff will be on hand to care for these young boys and make sure their experience at the Academy is an overwhelmingly positive one that sets them up for life.
“Good to luck to Samuel, Chido and James, well done to our recruitment team and congratulations to the families and wider support networks involved in these boys’ journeys. Signing for Manchester United should be a proud day for everyone involved.
“I’d also like to take a moment to praise our outstanding recruitment staff, led by Luke Federonko. Their roles can be lonely and require unsociable hours and they don’t often get the same praise as the coaches, but they deserve to.”
