Manchester United cancel pending transfer for “impressive” star after Ruben Amorim watched him train

Manchester United have cancelled a planned transfer after one young star impressed Ruben Amorim during pre-season training.

Manchester United’s pre-season is well underway and Ruben Amorim will be hoping for major improvements from his squad heading forward.

Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon have joined the club as new players, and Bryan Mbeumo will also come in next week after the club reached an agreement for his signing.

There are also plenty of young players who are eager to impress during this summer and one of those has managed to do exactly that.

Amorim has not been shy in his use of Academy talent at United and Sporting. He provided debuts to Chido Obi and Harry Amass last term.

United cancel Kone loan move after impressing Amorim

Sekou Kone joined United last summer and started his journey in the Under-21s, where he managed to impress and land a spot on the senior team’s bench on several occasions.

The midfielder didn’t manage to make his official debut but did play in both games during the post-season tour of Asia.

Still, the plan for several months has been for the 19-year-old to head out on loan for this season, with INEOS-owned Lausanne-Sport being the frontrunners.

But it has now been reported by Nathan Salt that the plan has changed for Kone and that United have cancelled that pending loan move.

Instead, Kone is set to remain at Old Trafford after impressing Amorim and his staff during the opening weeks of pre-season.

This suggests that Kone could potentially push for first-team minutes in the deeper midfield role under Amorim; a position which is not the strongest at the club.

Kone decision is the right one

This news has been met with a positive reaction from most United fans, who are eager to see Kone break through into the first-team next season.

It does seem like the correct move to make, even if the Reds manage to secure a midfield signing during the remainder of the summer transfer window.

The best scenario would see Kone break through and make a positive impact in the first-team. Yet, even if that does not happen, it is not a bad thing.

He would be able to keep playing Under-21s level while also getting important experience training with Amorim’s squad on a daily basis.

Kone also had a long integration period in order to settle into his new life in Manchester after moving from Mali. Instead of having to get used to another new environment, he can continue to bed in at Carrington.
