Manchester United can hand summer target Bryan Mbeumo the perfect arrival gift at Old Trafford after his admission during a recent interview.
Manchester United have received the green light to begin negotiations with Brentford for Bryan Mbeumo, after the player made it clear he prefers a move to Old Trafford over interest from clubs like Newcastle and Arsenal.
Following a disappointing season, it was evident that United needed to bolster their attacking options—and they’ve moved swiftly in the transfer market to address that.
On the first day of the window, the club announced the arrival of Matheus Cunha on a five-year contract, with the Brazilian expected to feature on the left side of Ruben Amorim’s attacking setup.
However, United are still looking to add more firepower, and Mbeumo has emerged as a priority target in recent weeks, according to various reports.
The Brentford star had a stellar Premier League campaign, scoring 20 goals, and manager Thomas Frank has signalled that the club would be willing to sell for the right price. With Mbeumo now expressing a clear desire to join United, talks are set to begin.
United can hand Mbeumo perfect arrival gift
United have reportedly agreed to give Cunha the iconic no.10 shirt number, with Marcus Rashford looking increasingly likely to leave the club this summer.
The Brazilian star wore the same number at Wolves during his final season and Mbeumo could also arrive and get his existing number.
After arriving at Brentford in 2019, the Cameroonian international took the no.19 shirt and has kept it the entire time since then.
“No not any [reason],” he laughed when asked by Pro Direct if there is a reason why he chose the shirt number. “It was the only number left which looked good for me, so I just took it.”
It seems like the 25-year-old is not too fussy with his preferred number, and United have the opportunity to give him the perfect gift on arrival with the no.19 shirt number free to take at Old Trafford.
Raphaël Varane was the last player to don the shirt – which the likes of Rashford and Amad have also wore – but it has been vacant since the Frenchman’s departure in 2024.
United should focus on midfield
Mbeumo and Cunha arriving at United would completely change the complexion of the attack and some may argue that the striker signing does not need to be as extravagant.
A lot of people believe that the midfield is a big priority at Old Trafford and that should be prioritised soon in the window.

There have barely been any names linked with United in the engine room, with Ederson of Atalanta being the main player rumoured to join the club.
United have also eyed some Championship starlets but Jobe Bellingham looks likely to now join Borussia Dortmund. Hayden Hackney of Middlesborough has also been touted as a potential name.
