Manchester United broke season record vs Everton and one star will be furious about it

Manchester United lost 1-0 against Everton earlier in the week and broke a record that one star will be furious about.

Manchester United’s six-game unbeaten run in the Premier League came to an end as Everton secured a gritty 1–0 victory at Old Trafford on Monday night.

United dominated possession early on, but Everton looked more dangerous, and the visitors were reduced to ten men within 15 minutes when Idrissa Gana Gueye inadvertently collided with Michael Keane.

Even with the numerical advantage, Rúben Amorim’s side struggled to find rhythm, and a classy finish from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall put David Moyes’ team in front. United attempted to respond with greater urgency, but Everton held their lead going into half-time.

Mason Mount was introduced shortly after the interval, followed by Kobbie Mainoo and Diogo Dalot, yet Everton’s defensive organisation remained firm. In the final twenty minutes, Bryan Mbeumo, Bruno Fernandes, and the rest of United’s attacking contingent ramped up the pressure, with Joshua Zirkzee forcing a sharp save from Jordan Pickford.

In stoppage time, Everton’s composure and game management proved decisive, allowing them to leave with a well-earned and deserved three points.

United broke season record vs Everton

One of the trends of United’s defeat this week was their predictable attacking style. The Reds consistently moved the ball wide and looked to find space for crosses.

The only problem was that the box was always overloaded with Everton bodies and players like Joshua Zirkzee and Mason Mount do not shine in the air.

Zirkzee did come close with a couple of headers but it was never the best way for United to score, but they kept on trying it.

According to FBref, United attempted 38 crosses during their 1-0 defeat to the Toffees – the most they have attempted in any game so far this season. The closest amount came against Grimsby Town with 29.

It was confusing to see United continue to attack in this manner when it was clearly not working and one player in particular would have been furious.

Šeško will be furious with United vs Everton crosses

Benjamin Šeško missed the game against Everton with injury and will be out for a number of weeks. He signed for the club in the summer.

The 22-year-old has not had the easiest time at Old Trafford so far but the main thing that has become clear is that he can excel in the air.

Yet, while the aerially dominant striker has been on the pitch, it has often felt like United have failed to put quality crosses into the area. The deliveries against Everton were exactly what he’s been waiting for.

While the fact that Everton were down to 10 men played a part, Šeško will certainly be expecting more crosses into the box when he is back in action.
