Manchester United team news vs Brighton as player returns to Erik ten Hag’s training
Manchester United have seen one of their players return to Erik ten Hag’s training sessions as they prepare to face Brighton in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
After securing a 1-0 win over Fulham thanks to a debut goal from Joshua Zirkzee at Old Trafford, Manchester United are turning their heads to face Brighton.
Brighton are currently top of the Premier League table after their opening day 3-0 win over Everton, and Erik ten Hag‘s men will face them during their first home game of the season.
Against Fulham, Zirkzee, Matthijs de Ligt, and Noussair Mazraoui all made their debuts for the club and impressed fans during the Old Trafford win last Friday.
One man who missed out was Jadon Sancho, who Ten Hag had confirmed had an ear infection. However, Sancho has now returned to training and is expected to be fit to face Brighton.
Victor Lindelöf has missed United’s last two games due to an unspecified injury, but recent photos of the player being supported by a crutch on his left side suggest that he is suffering from some sort of issue with his left leg.
Luke Shaw sustained a calf injury in training before United faced Manchester City in the Community Shield two weeks ago and is not expected back until mid-September following the international break.
Rasmus Højlund is also anticipated to return only by mid-September after suffering a hamstring injury in the USA against Arsenal. Although there were fears this would significantly impact United’s goal threat, Zirkzee’s debut finish has eased this.
Meanwhile, new signing Leny Yoro and left-back Tyrell Malacia may be sidelined until at least November due to foot and knee surgeries, respectively. Malacia has not played a competitive fixture in almost 15 months.
After a series of injury issues last campaign, Harry Maguire has confirmed that he feels perfectly fit and healthy, both physically and mentally. He has been praised for his fantastic display against Fulham.
“I feel good, I feel fit,” he told club media. “Physically and mentally, I’m in a good place, and yeah, I’m looking forward to a big season.
“There’s so many games this season. I’m sure there’s going to be a lot of changes to come, game to game, in the starting eleven. And when your turn is upon you, you need to take your chance. And yeah, it’s one that we’ll need a big squad for.
“For myself, I feel fit and ready to go and looking forward to the season.”
United have recently sanctioned the sale of Facundo Pellistri to the Greek side Panathinaikos for just over £5 million, meaning he will no longer be part of the matchday squads.
