Manchester United are reportedly back in talks to secure their first sale of the summer as Rúben Amorim looks to raise funding.
Manchester United have sent 11 first-team and Academy players out on loan this summer, with Rúben Amorim eager to give several squad members the opportunity to play consistent senior football.
After a campaign that saw United finish 15th in the Premier League and lose the Europa League final, there is little need for a bloated squad. With no European football in 2025/26, chances for younger players will be limited.
Although highly regarded at Old Trafford, the likes of Toby Collyer, Jack Moorhouse, and Radek Vitek have been loaned to English clubs to continue their development with valuable first-team minutes.
More exits are expected, with Amorim also prepared to move on players surplus to requirements as he looks to generate funds for further signings in the coming weeks.
Antony deal being worked on ‘behind the scenes’
One player many thought would be easily offloaded is Antony after his brilliant six-month loan spell with Real Betis last season. However, with the Brazilian keen on a return to Spain, he has rejected all other offers, with Betis yet to meet United’s £35 million asking price.
But, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Betis are now working “behind the scenes” on Antony’s move. They are trying to find a solution for United that allows them to afford the winger while satisfying United’s demands.
“What I’m hearing is that Betis, behind the scenes, are still working on that,” Romano said on YouTube when addressing Antony’s future. “They are still pushing for Antony’s return.
“Betis are in conversations, Betis are in talks, Betis are speaking to the agents of the player, to the player himself, trying to find a solution with Man United and with Antony. Obviously, financially, it’s not an easy deal for Betis to keep Antony, but the fantastic loan spell he had there is a factor.
“Because it’s a World Cup year, Antony wants, obviously, to go to the World Cup with Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil. And so, they are insisting from Betis. They are trying to find the right structure, the right solution, but Betis are pushing to try to bring back Antony from Manchester United.”
This comes after Amorim interestingly confirmed that, should United’s conditions for the sales of any exiled players not be met, the club are prepared to reintegrate them into his squad for the coming campaign.
United could be expecting two more signings
Untied have spent over £200 million on their four new singings this summer without sanctioning any sales.
Marcus Rashford’s loan move to Barcelona has resulted in a reduction of around £15 million from their wage bill, and the club has earned over £20 million from sell-on clauses. However, to secure any further transfers before the end of the summer, sales must be made.
Aside from the Antony talks, Rasmus Højlund appears to be closing in on a move to Napoli, and United have responded by intensifying talks for goalkeeper Senne Lammens.
Should the Belgian’s move go through, he would be United’s fifth signing of the summer. At the same time, a midfielder could also arrive if Amorim can see through the sales of Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, and Jadon Sancho before the window shuts on 1 September.
