Manchester United are considered to be ‘absolutely interesting’ in signing an exciting Premier League star who would improve Ruben Amorim’s side.
In the latest summer transfer window, Manchester United signed three attacking players after letting go of the likes of Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Højlund.
The signings of Benjamin Šeško, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo were exciting additions. Mbeumo has been the standout signing since his arrival from Brentford.
But even with these new players, United are not a complete attacking outfit and one of their major weaknesses in the final third is the lack of quality on the left flank.
Matheus Cunha and Mason Mount are the main two players who operate as the left-sided no.10s but they often drift inside closer to the midfield or striker. The left-wingback’s job is to man the touchline and create from the flank.
Amad can do that job well on the right but Patrick Dorgu and Diogo Dalot have failed to impress on the left and United could do with a better offensive option to play there.
United are “absolutely interested” in signing ‘extraordinary’ star
Antoine Semenyo was linked with a move to United last summer and is continuing to be rumoured with a move, especially after it was revealed he has a release clause that can be activated in January. He has been in fine form this year and Pep Guardiola described him as an ‘extraordinary’ player.
Even though the Bournemouth star plays on the wing, it is feasible that United would want him as an attacking option at wingback, while also rotating in the frontline like Amad has done.
Speaking on the latest episode of the Talk of the Devils podcast, Andy Mitten confirmed that United would be interested in signing Semenyo.
He explained: “So, United went for him last summer. When the deal timed out, the word from Bournemouth, who were very switched on, was that they wanted £70 million.
“There was a my understanding of this and I didn’t pay too much attention to what was being reported at the time, so please correct me, there were not many biters for that price and the deal timed out on Manchester United.
“That’s how it was told to me, so he’s absolutely somebody Manchester United would be interested in signing to play for and improve the team.”
Semenyo profile needed at United
United lost against Everton on Monday night and their poor performance once again coincided with Amorim deciding to play two defenders as his wingbacks.
It almost always feels like United underwhelm when that is the case but they do not have a genuine attacker who can play on the left.
There would be question marks whether Amorim’s side would be defensively strong enough with Semenyo and Amad playing as wingbacks at the same time.

But on the other hand, these wingbacks should not be stuck in the backline out of possession and pressing should be their main priority when off the ball, which is something wingers have to do as well.
Yet, even without Amorim’s system in mind, United are missing that kind of direct and fast option on the left flank and it is the kind of signing that makes sense no matter who is in charge at Old Trafford.
