Manchester United and Ruben Amorim must react as Aston Villa are reportedly interested in one of the club’s best talents.

Ruben Amorim joined Manchester United earlier this week as the club’s new head coach and will take charge of his first game next weekend against Ipswich Town.

The 39-year-old comes to Old Trafford with a solid reputation following his body of work at Sporting, where he won two league titles, including the club’s first in 19 years.

One of the many strengths he brings to his new job is the ability to get the most out of young talent. Amorim was not afraid to bring youth players into his team and develop them.

He will certainly enjoy seeing the state of the Academy at Carrington, with countless exciting talents on the verge of first-team football.

One of those players is 17-year-old Harry Amass, who impressed during the pre-season tour in the summer but is still yet to make his debut.

Aston Villa interested in shock Harry Amass move

However, United must be aware of clubs potentially coming in to try and persuade Amass of a move due to his lack of involvement so far.

According to a new report from TEAMtalk, Aston Villa are interested in making a shock move for Amass.

United beat The Villains and several other top Premier League clubs to the signature of the talented left-back in the summer of 2023 from Watford and he has since proven his level in the club’s youth set-up.

Amass was a major part of the U18s treble-winning side and has since been a standout performer for the club’s U21s team.

The report states that United are not welcoming any interest for Amass but long-term admirers Villa are monitoring his situation closely and considering an attempt to lure the teenager to Birmingham.

United and Amorim must react

It isn’t exactly like the Old Trafford club is brimming with left-backs. In fact, Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia have both been out of action since February.

While the two senior left-backs are close to a return, there isn’t much confidence surrounding their ability to stay fit and Amass is yet to get an opportunity in their absence.

Amorim has a history of utilising youth prospects and many will be hoping that he will test Amass out in his left wingback position. That would help negate the defensive weaknesses which kept him out of the first-team picture at the start of the season.

United already sold one very talented left-back in Alvaro Fernandez, who they are reportedly interested in bringing back to the club.

All that is needed to ensure Amass is not pinched by the likes of Villa is a test in the first-team squad. If the conclusion is that he isn’t quite ready to play, then a loan move would be beneficial.
