Manchester United already have transfer solution as potential Premier League sale is reignited

Manchester United are still looking to do business in the closing days of the summer transfer market, with Erik ten Hag keen on multiple deals.

Whilst the United manager confirmed that he is comfortable with the front-line options at his disposal, he has also admitted that they are monitoring the market for a left-back, with Marc Cuccurela, Sergio Regulion and Marcos Alonso among the names linked following Luke Shaw’s injury.

It is also believed that a midfield addition – in particular, Sofyan Amrabat – is something that could materialise if sales are made.

Centre-back was also an area where United were also looking to add, however, Harry Maguire’s move to West Ham fell apart and so did Ten Hag’s hopes of bringing in a central defender.

It was reported that the reason for that potential deal breaking down – following the two clubs agreeing a £30 million fee, was that Maguire was searching for a £12 million pay-off from United. His wages would be set to be slashed to around £100,000-per-week.

The Reds were instead only willing to provide around £6 million for the defender who joined the club in 2019.

However, emerging reports from Alan Nixon, the journalist who broke the news that Maguire’s move to West Ham was off, has stated that the deal could in fact be reignited in the closing days of the window.

West Ham have re-opened talks with the Old Trafford club for the England international, according to the report, and are trying to find a way to pay a little bit more to help United pay off Maguire.

It was added that a deal is still ‘well short’ of being completed, however.

Nevertheless, Maguire has yet to appear for United so far this season and will almost undoubtedly have his England place for Euro 2024 in jeopardy if he continues at the club.

Though, if United are to end up selling the 30-year-old, it appears that they have a plan in place in order to replace him in the minimal time left in the window.

Reports from L’equipe state that ‘things are clear’ between United and OGC Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo; that he will only sign for the club if Maguire leaves and that Ten Hag planned to bring him in as the fourth central defender in the squad.

United scouts watched the defender earlier this month when it looked like Maguire’s future involved the exit door and now with Benjamin Pavard closing in on a move to Inter Milan, it seems like Todibo is the main option for The Reds should a resolution be found for Maguire and West Ham.
