Manchester United Academy winger could leave this week amid Kobbie Mainoo transfer speculation

After all the speculation surrounding Kobbie Mainoo’s future, a talented Manchester United academy prospect could be due to leave the club this week.

Manchester United’s summer has been predominantly focused on incomings, with the club struggling to offload the majority of their want-away stars so far.

Ruben Amorim has seen three attackers enter the club during his first summer as manager, with the sums for Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Šeško amassing around £200million.

On the outgoing front, a few players saw their contracts come to an end, but other than that, no player has left permanently. Even Marcus Rashford’s had to settle for a loan move, although Barcelona have an option to buy next summer.

With only a week left in the transfer window, United will be looking to offload some more of their stars. Academy talent Sam Mather could be next to depart.

Mather attracting European interest

As reported by Manchester Evening News, Mather could be set to leave United permanently in the next week, as he seeks the next chapter of his development.

The 20-year-old is considered an ideal fit for European football, and it is hoped that a permanent transfer can be arranged; however, a loan deal with an option to buy may also be an alternative.

United’s talented winger has received interest from clubs in Germany, Sweden and Turkey so far, with Mather feeling as if he has outgrown academy football with the U21s.

Mather went out on loan to Tranmere Rovers in February, although he only featured twice in League Two for the side as Nigel Adkins was sacked soon after the winger’s arrival.

United’s impressive academy

With Mather seemingly departing, there may now be an additional space in the U21s for one of United’s young lads to fill. They have an abundant array of talent to choose from.

The Red Devils’ U18s have been on fire at the start of this campaign, and have won both of their first two matches, scoring six and conceding none.

As well as this, the young Reds have just won 4-0 in their first Premier League Cup fixture against Brighton, which featured many of their attacking talents.

Mather’s potential departure may give United the chance to fast-track the likes of Bendito Mantato, Amir Ibragimov, or even the impressive 14-year-old JJ Gabriel, who has recently started featuring for the U18s.
