Manchester United will need to make a £21 million decision before they progress in several key transfers for the summer window.

It has been confirmed that Erik ten Hag will remain at United following the end-of-season review conducted by INEOS‘ chiefs.

Various positions need strengthening in the coming months, including the midfield, with the likes of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen likely to depart the club.

Joao Neves and Morten Hjulmand are among the players linked with a move to Old Trafford to boost the depth within the engine room.

However, it seems clear that United must make a decision regarding Sofyan Amrabat before they move forward with potential midfield signings.

A report from the Manchester Evening News earlier this month claimed that United have not ruled out the possibility of signing Amrabat on a permanent basis.

It was stated that a decision would be made after the club finalises Ten Hag’s future. That has now been clarified following the INEOS’ end-of-season review.

Amrabat joined United on a season-long loan from Fiorentina last summer, with the terms including an option to make the move permanent for £21 million.

Should they decide to keep the 27-year-old, they will likely need to reconsider their midfield targets, with Neves and Hjulmand likely to cost upwards of £60 million each.

Two midfield signings are the ideal amount for the club, alongside multiple other additions in defence and attack. It is clear that sales will be crucial in their plans.
