A manager has revealed his stance regarding the potential role of Manchester United manager if Ruben Amorim is to be sacked. It is a blessing in disguise.
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has come under fire in recent months, with his side struggling to put points on the board in these early stages of the new Premier League season.
The Red Devils currently sit 14th in the league after six games, with seven points. To add insult to injury, they are also out of the Carabao Cup, whilst having no European competition to take part in.
A lot of the concern surrounding Amorim has been regarding his stubbornness and how he hasn’t been able to find a way to get the best out of United’s top talents, such as Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo.
With speculation growing that the Portuguese tactician may be on borrowed time, rumours are starting to build about who may be in line to replace him. One manager in particular has revealed his stance.
Southgate stance revealed
United have been linked with several different coaches amid speculation of an Amorim sacking, including the likes of Xavi Hernandez, Michael Carrick, and Gareth Southgate.
As revealed by The Mirror, Southgate is not in any rush to return to football after his former role as the England manager after the 2024 European Championships, and would ‘reject an approach’ from United if Amorim was sacked.
Southgate was among the candidates for the United job back in March 2024, when the club’s higher-ups considered sacking Erik Ten Hag, although the 55-year-old was too committed to his England team to consider departing.
The former England boss has been seen at numerous sporting events since his departure from the limelight, including multiple football matches, and remains close with former FA colleagues.
A blessing in disguise
Given the current situation at Manchester United, it may be a blessing in disguise that Southgate is not interested in the role of United manager.
The Red Devils are in desperate need of an experienced manager who can come into the club and turn things around, which Southgate may not be able to do, considering he hasn’t managed at club-level in over 15 years.
United would be far better off going for a manager who has been successful at club-level; otherwise, they will run the risk of making the same mistake that they have made in their last few managerial appointments.
A steady, experienced club manager is what is needed at United, who is capable of getting their best talents to flourish again, but will they get that?
