Manchester United confirmed their first loan departure of the January transfer window earlier this week.

Ruben Amorim is hopeful that Manchester United will secure some new signings to strengthen his first-team squad this month.

The United manager has faced challenges during his tenure, managing just four wins in 12 matches, highlighting the urgent need for reinforcements.

A left-wingback remains a top priority, while adding another striker would be highly beneficial. However, the club must generate funds through player sales to facilitate any incoming transfers.

United are also expected to be active in the loan market for young talents, with players like Dan Gore among those likely to leave temporarily.

Additionally, several young players have recently returned from loan spells. This week, the club confirmed the recall of Elyh Harrison, alongside Joe Hugill, Tom Myles, and Tom Wooster from their respective loans.

Ennis becomes first January departure at United

United were able to confirmed the loan departure of Ethan Ennis on Friday, with the deal being the first one of the mid-season window.

Ennis has scored 10 goals and has a handful of assists so far this season for the club’s Under-21s side and looks ready for the step up to men’s team football.

The 20-year-old recently netted a hat-trick against National League side Altrincham in the National League Cup, showing his goalscoring capabilities against senior opposition.

He has moved to League Two side Doncaster Rovers for the rest of the season, despite there being well-known interest in the player from clubs in higher divisions.

Why United are “very smart” with Ennis loan

Doncaster Rovers boss Grant McCann could not hide his excitement when discussing his new signing to club media.

“This is a very good signing for us and we’ve had to fight off lots of competition from higher up the pyramid than us,” McCann said.

“He’s a very exciting player. He can play anywhere across the front end of the pitch. As I say all the time, we like to have competition for places at that top end.”

The 44-year-old also explained why he believes United are being “very clever” in their dealing of Ennis’ loan, claiming that many other big clubs would look at sending him higher up the divisions without thinking about potential game-time.

“I’m really, really pleased to get him because sometimes when you’re a big club like Man United, it’s easy to send one of your better youngsters to a Championship team,” continued McCann.

“But Man United are very clever and like I say I’m really pleased that Travis [Binnion] and all the staff at Man United can see this as a real good platform for him.”

It is quite clear that Doncaster will be looking to give Ennis as much game-time as possible, which should do wonders for his development.

The loanee’s first opportunity to play comes in the FA Cup third-round against Hull City on Sunday afternoon.
