Manchester United have released an update on the fitness of Leny Yoro and Manuel Ugarte ahead of the club’s Europa League clash against Real Sociedad.

Manchester United are returning their attention to the Europa League as they face Real Sociedad in the second leg of their round of 16 tie.

The first leg occurred in San Sebastian, Spain, where Joshua Zirkzee opened the scoring for Rúben Amorim’s men before Mikel Oyarzabal’s penalty levelled the aggregate score at 1-1.

The return leg will now take place at Old Trafford with both teams looking to upset the other and knock them out for a space in the quarter-final, where the winning team will face either Olympique Lyonnais or FCSB, with the French side currently holding a 3-1 lead on aggregate.

United’s last game ended as a 1-1 draw with Arsenal, although many fans have taken positives from the overall performance. There is little doubt that Old Trafford will be up and ready for the contest with the Spanish outfit on Thursday evening.

United issue double injury update

Against Arsenal, United were without a whole host of first-team players, with long-term absentees Kobbie Mainoo, Lisandro Martínez, and Amad joined by others such as Manuel Ugarte and Harry Maguire, who have missed the last two fitures due to injury.

However, Amorim provided a positive update on Ugarte, telling one outlet, “Maybe Ugarte, I don’t know, we’ll see,” when asked whether he will have any returns against La Real, before telling another: “I think Manu will return.”

Meanwhile, United fans were worried to see that Leny Yoro had to be substitute at half-time after a clear injury was sustained against Arsenal, with Ayden Heaven coming on for his Premier League debut in the second half.

Heaven played very well and is no doubt in contention to start against Real Sociedad, and Amorim explained that Yoro will be assessed in the coming days ahead of the Europa League fixture, but did not rule him out.

“Leny, he has something in his foot,” Amorim explained. “I think. We’ll see if he’s available on Thursday.”

Amorim issues thoughts on Sociedad fixture

United have played three games in the last seven days, against Fulham, Sociedad, and Arsenal, and their second-leg side against the La Liga opposition will be their fourth game in ten days.

However, Amorim stated that he is confident his side will be ready to play and fight on Thursday evening despite the very pressing physical demands being put on his squad.

“We will be ready for Thursday,” Amorim declared. “We have had to cope this week, we had three games. We came from Ipswich, when we played one half with one less man, extra-time with Fulham and then played in Spain with the travel.

“We played against Arsenal, who won 7-1 in the Champions League. We will be ready for Thursday. It’s going to be an important game for us.”
