Rúben Amorim is expected not to start Leny Yoro as Manchester United prepare to face Arsenal in the Premier League on Wednesday evening.

Rúben Amorim’s Manchester United head to the Emirates to face Arsenal, full of confidence after a resounding 4-0 victory over Everton at the weekend.

Amorim has made an impressive start since taking over at Old Trafford, securing two wins and a draw in his first three matches. His arrival has injected new life into a team that struggled under Erik ten Hag earlier in the season.

Meanwhile, Arsenal, managed by Mikel Arteta, are also in fine form, coming off a commanding 5-2 win over West Ham, setting the stage for a highly anticipated showdown.

United are currently 9th in the Premier League but sit just four points behind 4th-placed Brighton, keeping their hopes of a Champions League spot very much alive.

Amorim’s five changes

With mulitple injruies and suspensions to contend with, Rúben Amorim is expected to make five changes to the XI that faces Arsenal on Wednesday evening.

André Onana will start in goal, and due to a lack of fit centre-backs, Noussair Mazraoui is expected to continue his role as right centre-back while Matthijs de Ligt will slot into the middle defensive role.

Lisandro Martínez is suspended, meaning that the returning Harry Maguire could slip in as the centre-back despite only playing once since his return from injury, against Everton for 34 minutes off the bench.

Luke Shaw could otherwise play there, but reports suggest that he is injured and therefore unavailable for selection.

Although Leny Yoro is likely to be part of the squad, United are managing his fitness carefilly, meaning he most likely will not start on Wednesday, but may make an appearance from the bench.

As for wing-backs, although Amorim has so far issued a policy of rotation, the attacking nature of Arsenal means he may choose to stick with Amad Diallo on the right and Diogo Dalot on the left, as his allows for defensive stability and consistency on both sides.

In midfield, Amorim has also been served with the suspension of Kobbie Mainoo, and with the manager likely wanting to rotate, he could choose to play a fresh Christian Eriksen alongside Manuel Ugarte, with the pair bringing a good balance to the team in midfield and allowing Casemiro a rest.

In attack is where Amorim has the biggest headache. Following braces from Joshua Zirkzee and Marcus Rashford on the weekend, most managers would be inclined to start the duo against Arsenal, but with the 39-year-old, this is less likely.

Amorim wants as many players as possible playing, and with the exception of Bruno Fernandes as the right attacking midfielder, United may see Mason Mount and Rasmus Højlund return to the team.

Højlund’s physical nature is well suited to facing Arsenal centre-back duo Gabriel and William Saliba, and he is well rested after not featuring against Everton.

Mason Mount is a player Amorim has explained he loves, and with United likely on the back foot for majority of the game on Wednesday, Mount’s aggression and energy out of possession could make him a valuable asset in the right attacking position at the Emirates.

Man United expected XI

Onana, Mazraoui, De Ligt, Maguire, Amad, Ugarte, Eriksen, Dalot, Fernandes, Højlund, Mount.
