According to a new report, Manchester United have found the “perfect” striker for Rúben Amorim and are plotting to bid for the Premier League star.

Manchester United’s 2025 transfer plans are taking shape following the arrival of Rúben Amorim as head coach.

Amorim succeeded Erik ten Hag, who departed with the club in a disappointing 14th position in the Premier League and 21st in the Europa League, despite a summer outlay exceeding £200 million.

Operating with a tighter budget, United’s focus has shifted to Amorim unlocking the potential of the current squad.

While January signings are unlikely, the club are preparing for summer reinforcements, with several player sales expected to fund new arrivals.

The “perfect striker”

United are in the market for a new striker this summer, with their goalscoring woes over the past 18 months hampering the side’s chances of winning games.

With Dan Ashworth now the spearhead of United’s recruitment, FootballInsider has revealed that they are planning to swoop in for Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Matheus Cunha this summer.

United view his experience in the Premier League and on the national stage with Brazil as a “valuable commodity” to add to the squad, considering the team’s perceived lack of experience at the moment.

United also view him as the “perfect striker” for Amorim’s system as he can operate in the lone No. 9 role as well as one of the two attacking midfielders in his 3-4-3 system.

Cunha’s ideal traits

It’s also stated that Cunha’s pressing capabilities, speed, creativity, and goalscoring are seen as positive traits that have placed him towards the top of United’s list of targets.

The Brazilian 25-year-old has seven goals and three assists in 12 Premier League outings this campaign, furthering his positive performances across 2023/24.

Although Wolves have already decided that no major player sales will occur in January, Cunha’s good form will make it hard for the club to keep hold of him beyond this summer.

Having played a £60 million transfer fee on him in 2023, Cunha’s contract expires in 2027, and he will be likely attracted to a move for the top of the European elite this summer.
