Manchester United have free run at double £76m January transfer bargain on the table
Manchester United have a free run at a double £76 million January transfer bargain on the table should Rúben Amorim decide new signings are needed.
Manchester United are focusing on their 2025 transfer plans as Rúben Amorim gets to grips with his squad at Old Trafford.
The highlight of Amorim’s tenure so far came in a dramatic win over Manchester City, where late goals from Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo delivered a crucial Premier League victory.
To fund their transfer ambitions, United are expected to offload several high-profile players, including Marcus Rashford, who could be sold if bids in the region of £40 million are received this summer.
Despite these likely departures, the club aim to bring in up to five key signings in 2025, with targets identified across attack, midfield, and defence to strengthen the squad further.
United have a £76m bargain double transfer on the table
There is no doubt within the fanbase that two of United’s priority areas for the 2025 transfer windows are to sign a new striker and a new left-back in the coming months.
Concerning these two positions, United have a unique chance to secure quality players in both areas in January, which would immediately boost Amorim’s squad.
As for the left-back position, United are the only club in world football who could sign Benfica star Alvaro Fernandez for £16 million, as they have a buy-back clause in his contract that was inserted when he departed Old Trafford in January last year.
Fernandez has been wowing fans in Portugal with his brilliant displays after Erik ten Hag dismissed him last season, and he is thought to be greatly appreciated by Amorim.
He has a release clause of £42 million for other clubs, meaning United’s buy-back clause, which is valid until 2026, gives them a £36 million discount on his transfer should they want to bring him back in January.
The second is the potential transfer of Victor Osimhen. Sky Sport have reported that United are already in contact with the 25-year-old’s entourage and, after his falling out with his parent club Napoli, the striker on loan from Galatasaray is ready for sale in January.
United’s evident desperation for a striker in January helps put them in a unique position to sign Osimhen next month. Napoli are said to want around £62 million for the player, with the above report saying United are “ready to consider” this price.
Chelsea came close to agreeing on a fee of over £100 million for the player in the summer, but the deal fell through, so the drop in price of £38 million represents a brilliant chance for United.
United could seal Fernandez and Osimhen for a total of £76 million while the players’ true values equate to over £140 million – a bargain double transfer. Other suits for either player are also more focused on targets for the summer, giving United an almost free run in January should they choose to take it.
