Rúben Amorim will have no choice but to field a depleted Manchester United starting XI against Tottenham after his squad was plagued with injury issues this week.

Manchester United resume their Premier League campaign on Sunday afternoon with a crucial clash against Tottenham Hotspur in North London.

The two sides have already produced a breathtaking encounter at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this season, with Spurs edging a dramatic 4-3 contest to eliminate Rúben Amorim’s men from the Carabao Cup. Now, they meet again, both in desperate need of a result to spark life into their struggling campaigns.

Neither club has lived up to expectations this season, with United sitting 13th and Spurs just behind them in 14th, separated by only two points. With ambitions of competing at the top end of the table, both sides know this fixture carries extra weight in their bid to turn things around.

For Amorim, Sunday’s showdown is another opportunity to refine his squad and build much-needed momentum. Meanwhile, Postecoglou faces increasing scrutiny, with Spurs fans growing restless after a string of poor results.

With pressure mounting and pride on the line, this North London battle promises to be a fiery and fiercely contested affair.

Amorim forced into changes due to injuries

On Saturday, news broke that all of Amad, Kobbie Mainoo, Toby Collyer, and Manuel Ugarte would miss the fixture due to injury.

Mainoo is expected to be out for a couple weeks, while there are fears that Amad will miss the rest of the campaign due to injury, with Collyer reportedly ill and little information on Ugarte’s injury.

With these injuries impacting Amorim’s team, he has chosen to select five Academy players to join the first-team squad as United travelled to North London on Saturday.

Although Altay Bayındır is injured and Academy goalkeeper Elyh Harrison has travelled, André Onana is expected to start in goal as he always does in the Premier League.

In defence, despite a few injuries, United have a fairly solid back three available with Noussair Mazraoui available as a right centre-back, while Matthijs de Ligt can start in the middle, with Leny Yoro performing well on the left of the back line.

Should Mazraoui start as a centre-back, Diogo Dalot may start as a right wing-back with Patrick Dorgu on the left, although Amorim had them on the opposite sides against Leicester City.

In midfield, United only have a few options available considering all the injuries, meaning Amorim has very little selection. If he doesn’t choose to play Academy players from the start, it’s likely that Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes will make up the midfield duo.

With Amad out, a potential natural replacement for him in the right-hand attacking position is Christian Eriksen, who performed well there in the Europa League.

Alejandro Garnacho may get the nod on the left after his Player of the Match display against Leicester last week, while Joshua Zirkzee’s goal may have earned him a start.

United predicted XI vs Tottenham

Onana, Mazraoui, De Ligt, Yoro, Dalot, Casemiro, Fernandes, Dorgu, Eriksen, Garnacho, Zirkzee.
