One Manchester United star has been handed a major individual boost despite a “very sad” situation as Rúben Amorim prepares his side to face Tottenham.

Manchester United are set to prioritise midfield reinforcements this summer as Rúben Amorim looks to resolve the team’s ongoing issues in the centre of the pitch.

United have struggled for creativity throughout the season, often finding it difficult to break down opposition defences and failing to score more than once per game. Their inconsistent home form at Old Trafford has only added to concerns about their control in midfield.

January saw several attacking departures, with Antony joining Real Betis, Marcus Rashford moving to Aston Villa, and Ethan Wheatley heading to Walsall on loan for the remainder of the campaign.

Further changes in midfield are expected in the summer. Christian Eriksen is set to leave when his contract expires, while Casemiro is no longer part of Amorim’s long-term plans.

As a result, United are preparing to be active in the transfer market, targeting midfielders who can bring greater creativity, energy, and tactical discipline to fit Amorim’s vision.

Eriksen’s “very sad” situation

As mentioned, one major reason for United’s pursuit of new midfielders is because Eriksen will depart once his contract expires in June.

Speaking via Ekstra Bladet, former Real Madrid midfielder and Denmark international Thomas Gravesen has explained he finds the situation surrounding Eriksen “very sad” considering his lack of game time under Amorim.

“A difficult, difficult situation for Christian Eriksen. When he finally gets a match every now and then, it’s a boost,” Gravesen said.

“He then got a match here the other day in Europe. It’s a very special situation. Now there is a very crucial period coming, when the national team will be selected, and where Eriksen has not played football, so for me it is a very sad situation, because Eriksen is one of our biggest stars and has been in the history of the national team.

“If he is going to end his career with the impression we are forming of him now, when he is not playing football and not a part of this wonderful game, then I will be sad.

“It will be extremely difficult to find a place for him if I were in charge, but there are so many things around Eriksen that it will be exciting to see.”

Eriksen handed boost ahead of Spurs clash

Despite Eriksen’s lack of overall game time under Amorim, he may be given the chance to shine this weekend after multiple injuries have left United’s midfield options short for the Spurs fixture.

Kobbie Mainoo has been ruled out for a few weeks with injury and Amad for the rest of the season, while Toby Collyer and Manuel Ugarte are major doubts for the Spurs game.

19-year-old Jack Moorhouse is one of several academy players being included in the travelling squad, but the three absences may mean that Eriksen has an individual boost and may get a chance to start in the Premier League due to lack of other options.

United may also see Casemiro return to the starting lineup. The Brazilian has not started a game under Amorim since the end of November, when he and Eriksen played an unfortunately significant role in a 3-0 loss against Newcastle at Old Trafford.
