One Manchester United star has broken a record at Old Trafford following an “impressive” fixture against Rangers on Thursday afternoon.

Manchester United clinched a dramatic late victory against Rangers as captain Bruno Fernandes sealed all three Europa League points with a stoppage-time winner on a tense evening at Old Trafford.

The first half was a cagey affair, with both sides struggling to take control. Matthijs de Ligt thought he had given United the lead, only for his header from a corner to be disallowed for a controversial foul in the box.

United’s Amad and Joshua Zirkzee came close to breaking the deadlock, while Rangers had their own moments, but the teams headed into half-time locked at 0-0.

The breakthrough came early in the second half when Rangers goalkeeper and former United player Jack Butland misjudged a Christian Eriksen corner, inadvertently punching the ball into his own net to give United the lead.

Alejandro Garnacho almost doubled United’s advantage, hitting the post with a curling effort. However, the visitors struck back late, with Cyriel Dessers smashing in an equaliser that looked set to deny United the win.

But in injury time, Lisandro Martínez delivered a pinpoint cross, and Fernandes rose to the occasion with a stunning finish, ensuring Rúben Amorim’s side emerged victorious with all three points.

Collyer breaks Old Trafford record vs Rangers

Toby Collyer made his first start under Amorim and only second for United as they faced Rangers on Thursday evening.

The midfielder was described as having an “impressive” performance despite his lack of senior minutes in his career so far, and with fans gushing about his display, he also broke a record.

Collyer became the first United player on record (since 2003) to record 50+ passes on their first appearance at Old Trafford in major European competition while maintaining a 94% completion rate.

Out of his 51 attempted passes, he completed 48 of them, and it becomes even more impressive once it’s stated that he played just 73 minutes.

Collyer also had 57 touches on the evening, completing both of his attempted dribbles, making eight recoveries and two interceptions.

He won three of his four ground duels and drew a much-needed foul, earning a 7.5/10 rating for his game on the night.
