Manchester United legend names manager with “great aura” who should replace Erik ten Hag
Manchester United have been advised to appoint a manager with a “great aura” should they choose to replace Erik ten Hag.
Erik ten Hag is feeling the heat as pressure mounts on him following Manchester United’s inconsistent form, which has left their 2024/25 season in jeopardy.
The team currently sit 14th in the Premier League and have slipped out of the top eight in the Europa League group stage after consecutive draws. These poor results have fueled fan frustration, with many demanding a managerial change.

Despite speculation that Ten Hag would be sacked during the October international break, a hard-fought 0-0 draw against a dangerous Aston Villa side has seemingly given him a lifeline.
The Dutch manager is set to return to Carrington on Monday to prepare for their next challenge—a crucial home fixture against Brentford on Saturday.
Schmeichel defends Tuchel
However, while he will be in charge once the tie comes around at Old Trafford, this has not stopped fans and pundits alike from speculating who should take over if a decision to axe Ten Hag is made.
Man United legend and former goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel has had his say, explaining that he feels Thomas Tuchel should be the man for the job if Ten Hag were removed from his position.
Although Tuchel has recently been known to avoid staying in one managerial post for too long, having been at both Chelsea and Bayern Munich of late, the Danish shot-stopper defended the German’s recent managerial record.
“I think with Tuchel and the last two jobs that he had at Chelsea and Bayern Munich, he’s been at those two clubs at the wrong time in their history,” Schmiehcel explained on Seaman Says. “Chelsea was a mess when he was there, and there was so much internal fighting.”
Furthermore, he explained that Bayern Munich’s decision to change their entire board of directors during his stint in Germany made Tuchel’s job almost impossible.
A man with aura
Pushed on what he sees in the German, Schmeichel claimed: “I really like Thomas Tuchel. Being around the Champions League and interviewing him, listening to what he’s saying when he’s in the technical area, and his personality, he just looks like somebody who could be a good manager at Manchester United.
“I don’t think he had his way at Chelsea. I know for sure he didn’t have his way at Bayern. I just think he’s got such a great aura around him that he fits the bill.”
Tuchel has been picked as co-owner of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s preferred choice should the club need a new manager in the dugout at some point this season.
However, the German boss is also in contention to take the current position as England manager, although this is far from confirmed.
