Erik ten Hag’s substitutions have been questioned multiple times this season as Manchester United suffer a poor run of results.

Manchester United currently sit 14th in the Premier League table, with recent results causing many to demand Erik ten Hag is sacked from his job as the club’s manager.

United have won just two of their last six games, with one of these being a 7-0 victory over League One opposition Barnsley, and the other a 3-0 win over Southampton that could have swung the other way had André Onana not saved a penalty.

Recent draws against FC Twente and FC Porto, as well as 3-0 losses at home against Liverpool and Tottenham, have proved to make fans that the Dutchman is not the right man to leave the club, although a recent draw with Aston Villa has brought the manger some credit.

One particular theme that many have questioned is Ten Hag’s substitutions. Against Porto, he took off Marcus Rashford at half-time despite the winger being United’s biggest attacking threat, and when the club needed a goal, he swapped his centre-backs.

Other moments, such as taking off Joshua Zirkzee against Crystal Palace, have also been called into question, with Alejandro Garncaho being played through a knee issue that has caused him to drop out of Argentina’s recent examples.

Jamie O’Hara, a regular pundit for Sky Sports and former Tottenham midfielder, has called into question the substitutions around Rashford, explaining he feels like the Englishman isn’t enjoying his football and is waiting to be taken off each game.

“Rashford doesn’t look like he’s enjoying his football,” O’Hara mentioned to a recent Sky Sports panel.

“He’s a dangerous player for Man United. He had a couple of chances [against Villa], [he] cuts inside, gets his shot away, you know. I really like Rashford, I do. I think he’s got so much potential to be a top, top player.

“But his body language just doesn’t seem to be right at Man United. I feel like he’s always waiting to get taken off, and he gets frustrated, and he could have gone today. So, the manager has to make that decision for the team.”
