One of Manchester United’s potential Erik ten Hag replacements is coming just a few months too late for one 24-year-old star.

Erik ten Hag is facing increasing pressure as Manchester United manager following a series of inconsistent results that have left the club scrambling to salvage their 2024/25 season.

They currently sit 14th in the Premier League table and out of the top eight of the Europa League system following back-to-back draws. These results have led fans to call for a change in manager.

Although many speculated that Ten Hag would see himself fired during the October international break, a 0-0 draw against a dangerous Aston Villa side seems to have helped plead his case.

The Dutch boss is set to return to Carrington on Monday to resume his managerial duties. The next hurdle is a fixture against Brentford at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

Potential replacements

Despite the seeming confirmation that Ten Hag will remain in his post for the time being, the rumour mill has not stopped running names of potential replacements.

While some of the summer names have resurfaced, with Thomas Tuchel, Thomas Frank, and Graham Potter being credited with links, another surprise name that has surfaced is former Borussia Dortmund man Edin Terzic.

According to reports on the weekend, United have added the German manager to their wishlist as a possible Ten Hag replacement should they choose to bite the bullet and replace the Dutchman.

Terzic unexpectedly left Dortmund earlier this year after he guided the club to the Champions League final, where they were defeated by La Liga giants Real Madrid in a 2-0 fixture at Wembley Stadium.

Too late for one star

Unfortunately, the potential appointment of Terzic has come too late for one Manchester United man.

During the summer, the club’s new ownership chose to boot out multiple high-profile players to raise extra funds, with over £100 million being brought in through the sales of Willy Kmabwala, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Scott McTominay, and others.

Another man who is set to be sold is Jadon Sancho. He joined Chelsea on an initial loan deal and is obligated to buy between £20-25 million should the club finish in at least 14th place.

The final amount will be determined by how high in the league table Enzo Maresca’s men end up come the end of the season.

Terzic and Sancho have an excellent working relationship. The 24-year-old winger paid homage to the German boss, thanking Terzic for “trusting” him when he had a six-month loan spell at Dortmund after being frozen out of Ten Hag’s squad.

Unfortunately, Terzic’s potential appointment at Old Trafford has now come too late for Sancho. He may have been able to rebuild a career at United should the German manager have been appointed in the summer, but with the player now set on a move to Chelsea, the timing has not worked out.
