Erik ten Hag has seven players unavailable for selection as Manchester United face Rosenborg for their first pre-season fixture of the summer.

Manchester United are kicking off their 2024 pre-season tour as they battle to face Rosenborg in the first of five pre-season friendlies this summer.

Following the Rosenborg game at the Lerkendal Stadion, they will then travel to Murrayfield to face Rangers. This will be followed by a flight to the USA, where they will face Arsenal, Real Sociedad, and Liverpool before facing off against Manchester City in the Community Shield at Wembley Stadium back in England on Saturday, 10 August.

After a torrid season saw injuries rip through Erik ten Hag’s squad, the Dutch manager will be sure to keep his players fit and fresh during the five pre-season fixtures. Here, UtdDistrict have detailed the full injury and team news in the squad.

Those on holiday

Manchester United have 12 players who are currently away on holiday following their international commitments across the 2024 Copa America and European Championships.

Although Scott McTominay (Scotland), Rasmus Højlund (Denmark), and Christian Eriksen (Denmark) were dumped from Euro 2024 in the early rounds, they were all entitled to three weeks’ holiday and will not return to the squad for another week or two.

Alejandro Garnacho (Argentina), Lisandro Martínez (Argentina), Facundo Pellistri (Uruguay), Kobbie Mainoo (England), Luke Shaw (England), and new signing Joshua Zirkzee (Netherlands) all made it to the final rounds of their respective competitions and so will not return to the team until the second week of August.

Bruno Fernandes (Portugal), Diogo Dalot (Portugal), and Altay Bayındır (Turkey) will all return to the side towards the end of the month.

Seven didn’t travel

Beyond those mentioned above, six more players did not travel with the squad to Norway, and United confirmed that they are following individual training sessions at Carrington.

“The Reds will take on Rosenborg at the Lerkendal Stadium in the first of two pre-season friendlies, before flying to the USA for Tour 2024,” a club statement read.

“A total of 25 players departed from Manchester on Sunday afternoon, ready to take part in the game.

“Harry Maguire is continuing to work on his recovery from injury at Carrington. André Onana, Victor Lindelöf, Amad, Antony, and Jadon Sancho are all working on their fitness at the training ground in line with individual schedules.”

Tyrell Malacia will also not travel with the team as he continues to work on his fitness following multiple knee surgeries in the last 12 months.
