Manchester United team news vs Rangers as player “steps up” injury return
Erik ten Hag will have an expanding pool of players to choose from as Manchester United prepare to face Rangers in the second of their five pre-season fixtures.
Although Manchester United’s pre-season tour began with a 1-0 defeat against Rosenborg, the focus was on getting match fitness for several first-team players. Marcus Rashford, Mason Mount, Casemiro, and others each logged 45 minutes as they gear up for the upcoming season.
The team will face Rangers in Scotland on Saturday afternoon before heading to the USA, where they will play against Arsenal, Real Betis, and Liverpool. United will then compete in the Community Shield against Manchester City on Saturday, August 10.

Here is all the latest team news as Manchester United prepare to face Rangers at Murrayfield in Edinburgh on Saturday afternoon.
Who is back?
Ten Hag could have up to seven players returning for the trip to Scotland following multiple players undergoing individual training sessions to increase their match fitness ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
None of Jadon Sancho, André Onana, Amad Diallo, Antony, and Victor Lindelöf travelled to Norway, but Sancho, Onana, and Amad have all travelled with the squad to face Rangers.
Who is unavailable?
Despite being pictured doing fitness work, Tyrell Malacia remains unavailable as he continues his work to return from multiple knee surgeries that left him out of the entire 2023/24 season.
Beyond this, nine other first-team players are away on holiday following international commitments: Alejandro Garnacho, Lisandro Martínez, Kobbie Mainoo, Luke Shaw, Diogo Dalot, Bruno Fernandes, Facundo Pellistri, Rasmus Højlund, and Christian Eriksen.
The latter two are expected back next week before the club flies to the USA.
Marcus Rashford, Antony, Harry Maguire, and Lindelöf were not part of the squad that travelled to Scotland. The club announced that Maguire had “stepped up” his training ahead of the tie, but he is not fit to travel.
Scott McTominay has also returned to the club following his exit with Scotland in the 2024 European Championships last month, but did not make the trip up north.
What about new signings?
United announced the signing of Joshua Zirkzee last week, but due to his participation in Euro 2024 with the Netherlands, he will not initially travel with the squad to the USA.
Although this has yet to be confirmed, there is a possibility that Zirkzee will join the team for their final game against Liverpool in South Carolina.
United’s other signing, Leny Yoro from Lille, has been included in the squad to face Rangers. Having already taken a holiday after the end of the Ligue 1 season, Yoro is available immediately after his signing, training just one day after his unveiling as a new Manchester United player.
