Man Utd star is already proving Rúben Amorim wrong after ‘disappointing’ summer decision

Proven in their recent victory over Sunderland, A Manchester United star is already proving Ruben Amorim wrong after a ‘very disappointing’ summer decision.

During the summer, Manchester United recruited heavily into their front-line, as they looked to eradicate the goalscoring issues that left them struggling last campaign.

Ruben Amorim’s side invested significantly in three new attackers, which left them with only a fraction of their budget to bolster the rest of their squad.

Having purchased Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Benjamin Šeško, the Reds then turned their attention to their goalkeeping department, where they brought in Senne Lammens for additional competition.

According to Peter Schmeichel, this decision he believes will have left Amorim ‘very disappointed’, although the Belgian shot-stopper could already be proving his doubters wrong.

Schmeichel’s claims Amorim disappointment

When speaking on BBC’s ‘Monday Night Club’ podcast, via TBR Football, Schmeichel said, “I think he was very disappointed that it wasn’t [Gianluigi] Donnarumma or Emi Martinez who was arriving on that day.

“And it was this young lad that I’m quite sure that he probably didn’t know too much about.

“The rumour is that he signed purely on the data that he’s had the best statistics over the last season for in the best top 10 leagues or something like that, which at the end of the day tells you nothing when it comes to Manchester United goalkeeping.”

Despite these comments by the former United goalkeeper, Lammens put in an awe-inspiring debut display at Old Trafford, as he stepped in for Altay Bayindir.

Lammens impresses on debut

Having joined on deadline day, Lammens has had to wait over a month for his debut at United, although he was entrusted with a start at the weekend against Sunderland.

The young Belgian earned a much-deserved clean sheet against the Black Cats, due to his impressive shot-stopping and cross-claiming, and will likely continue to feature between the sticks.

With fans of the Reds being starved of consistent high-quality goalkeeping for several years now, they were very eager to sing the praises of their new 23-year-old during his debut display.

Hopefully, this wasn’t just a one-off for Lammens, and he can lock down the number one position in the near future to help turn the tide at United.
