Man Utd slammed for not doing ‘in-depth analysis’ on Senne Lammens, one thing shows Ruben Amorim is ‘desperate’

Manchester United’s decision to sign Senne Lammens has been slammed by the club’s former goalkeeper Ben Foster.

Through the signings of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko, Manchester United managed to completely change their attack.

It was needed after the goalscoring troubles Ruben Amorim’s side faced last term. Cunha and Mbeumo already look like huge improvements on what United had beforehand.

At the back, it has been a similar story with Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir both struggling greatly between the sticks over the last year.

Senne Lammens was signed on deadline day after the Reds monitored the Belgian shot-stopper for several months.

United slammed for not doing ‘in-depth analysis’ on Lammens

Ben Foster has made his feelings clear on United signing Lammens, with the ex-goalkeeper suggesting that it was a ‘panic buy’ from his former club.

He has accused United’s chiefs of failing to do ‘in-depth analysis’ on the 23-year-old after explaining how he watched some YouTube clips of the player.

“Being a goalkeeper for United is the hardest goalkeeping position to play in world football,” said Foster on his Fozcast podcast. “You need someone with broad shoulders.

“I’ve watched a lot of videos of him [Lammens] on YouTube…and he looks on the eye test like he’s a competent goalkeeper. I’m yet to see what he’s like with the ball at his feet though and I think he’s a panic buy.

“United have probably always got some sort of list of goalkeepers that they look at and they keep tabs on.

“There will be scouts all over the world…but I don’t think they’ve done an in-depth analysis. A deadline day goalkeeper signing tells me that your club is desperate.”

Foster’s argument doesn’t make sense

Foster’s entire point revolves around the fact that Lammens was signed on deadline day. But United were following him for a significant period. It’s not like he came out of nowhere.

It had also been mentioned many, many times that United needed to sell to buy after their outlay on attacking signings.

The likes of Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund did not depart until the final days of the window, so United did not sign a goalkeeper until then. It isn’t exactly rocket science.

Lammens is by no means going to be a guaranteed success at Old Trafford, but to suggest that he was a panic signing is ridiculous.
