Manchester United legend raves about Rúben Amorim’s big change that benefits three players
Manchester United legend Louis Saha is delighted at a big change Rúben Amorim has made, which will benefit three of his biggest stars.
Rúben Amorim has been appointed as Manchester United‘s new head coach, taking over from Erik ten Hag, who left the club in turmoil.
Ten Hag was sacked at the end of last month after United’s poor performances saw them drop to 14th in the Premier League and 21st in the Europa League group standings, well off the pace in both competitions.

Amorim is yet to take charge of a game due to release clause complexities but is expected to make his debut on the sidelines when United face Ipswich Town in the Premier League on Sunday, 24 November.
In the meantime, Ruud van Nistelrooy stepped in as caretaker manager, securing three wins and a draw before stepping aside as Amorim’s newly appointed coaching staff took over operations at Carrington.
Amorim’s big change
Amorim’s biggest immediate change at United is the new system he is implementing on the field. Amorim favours a 3-4-3 formation, which is drastically different from the 4-2-3-1/4-3-3 United has seen over the last decade.
There has been some debate as to whether a system change halfway through the season could cause some players to struggle to adapt, but according to United legend and former striker Louis Saha, this is not the case.
“I don’t think so,” Saha told BetFred when asked if Amorim’s players may struggle in the back-three system. “The three defenders at the back will give us more options, so I don’t see any problems with the players that we have.
“Players coming back from injury will also help, so I don’t think there’s any problems at the back.
“In midfield, there’s Casemiro, Manuel Ugarte, Christian Eriksen and Kobbie Mainoo, so the style could differ depending on who plays. The wingers should be able to play in either of those number ten roles behind the striker, when asked to, because there’s no need for style to be so rigid.”
Benefits three Man United players
Further, Saha explained that he feels Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford, and Mason Mount will all benefit from the change, as well as Amorim’s general appointment.
“Alejandro Garnacho has definitely improved,” he continued. “He’s got the quality and stamina to play on the wing. The same applies for Marcus Rashford. The only problem Marcus has at the moment is finding his confidence and that’s a bit of a problem.
“The pair of them should have no problem with adapting to Amorim’s system and they shouldn’t struggle in any way. They both have way more to offer.
“Mason Mount’s a player that’s struggled for the last two years and I believe it’s good for him to have a new manager and hopefully he can fit into the new system.
“There’s a lot of positives for any of the players that have struggled in particular recently and it’s an opportunity for them to impress.”
