Manchester United star ‘voices complaint’ over Rúben Amorim decision as squad respond
There has reportedly been a complaint from one Manchester United player surrounding Rúben Amorim’s rotation policy in his opening month as head coach.
Rúben Amorim is settling into his role at Manchester United, having managed five matches across two competitions since his arrival.
United have tasted victory in the Europa League but have experienced mixed fortunes in the Premier League. They produced a dominant 4-0 win over Everton but fell short against Arsenal and Nottingham Forest and shared the points with Ipswich Town.
Amorim has embraced a rotation policy, making five or six changes to his starting lineup for each game. He explained that this strategy ensures key players get valuable rest while providing more opportunities for focused training sessions.
One significant upside to this approach is the recovery of several injured players, leaving only Luke Shaw currently unavailable from the first-team squad.
Complaint over Amorim
According to the Manchester Evening News, at least one player has privately complained about Amorim’s decision to employ heavy rotation during his opening few weeks as the club’s new boss.
However, the rest of the squad are said to have reacted well to the rotation policy, as it has helped share game time between a lot of players who have otherwise not had many minutes.
Those such as Joshua Zirkzee, Amad Diallo, and Manuel Ugarte have seen vast improvements in minutes, although others such as Christian Eriksen and Antony have been mostly left out.
Amorim has started 20 different players during his five matches in charge and made 25 substitutes out of a possible 25.
Amorim’s explanation
Last week, Amorim clarified that the rotation was partly enforced by players returning from injury.
“It’s not because I like to change all the time, but we have to have all the squad fit,” he told the press. So, for example, Harry Maguire has a time limit, Tyrell Malacia has a time limit, Mason Mount has a time limit, Leny Yoro has a really time limit.
“So we have to manage winning games, different methodology, different way of playing, more metres to press and tomorrow we have to assess and the guys that are a little bit at risk to some injury will not play.
“So we have to have everybody to work, to play and to improve the squad.”
Before the Forest match, Rúben Amorim mentioned he was “more or less” close to finalising his best XI. Apart from the rested Noussair Mazraoui, Amorim fielded a side widely seen as Manchester United’s strongest line-up.
