“It does not make sense…” Rúben Amorim delivers major Manchester United line-up hint vs Arsenal
Rúben Amorim has delivered a major Manchester United line-up hint as he prepares his side to face Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal in the FA Cup third round.
Manchester United kick off their FA Cup defence with a challenging trip to North London to face Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.
Back in May 2024, Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo were the heroes as Erik ten Hag’s side lifted the trophy with a commanding performance at Wembley.
Eight months later, United are now led by 39-year-old Rúben Amorim, who stepped in following Ten Hag’s dismissal in October. Amorim’s reign so far has been a mix of highs and lows, but the team has shown promise in key moments.
The last meeting between these two sides came in December at the Emirates, where Arsenal capitalised on two corners to secure the win. Nevertheless, United have been lauded for their competitive displays against big teams away from home.
Amorim delivers major United line-up hint
Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Amorim was quizzed about if he will rotate his side against Arsenal, to which he explained that he is going to start rotating less.
“I think we rotated more in that part when we were trying to find out what kind of players we have,” he told the press on Friday afternoon.
“Players have returned from injury and now we are rotating less. Now we have had time to train a little bit more, I expect my team to understand a little bit better, the game. I don’t rotate because I want to rotate; I am not different from other coaches.”
Further, Amorim hinted that he will keep the team that started against Liverpool mostly the same, explaining that he doesn’t make sense for him to change the team drastically.
“At this moment, I am living day by day,” he continued. “We had one week without a game. It does not make sense for me to rest players now and play both games really near.
“We have to win and follow the last performance. We are in a difficult moment. We are improving, we will put out the best team to try to win. I will choose the best team to win. We want to win the cup.
“Sometimes, it is better to win this type of game and have less time to rest. We just to win this game and then we will think about the next.”
Amorim also confirmed that Altay Bayındır will start in goal at the Emirates Stadium ahead of André Onana.
