Sources: What Manchester United now think about Rasmus Højlund after “behind the scenes” agent move
Manchester United have made their decision surrounding Rasmus Højlund’s future at Old Trafford amid reports that his representatives are working behind the scenes to find him fresh options.
Rasmus Højlund’s first 18 months at Manchester United have been anything but smooth following his £72 million move from Atalanta in the summer of 2023.
The Danish striker made an electric start in the Champions League, scoring five goals in his first six appearances, but he struggled to find the net in the Premier League, taking 14 games to register his first goal.
Despite that slow start, Højlund made history by becoming the youngest player to score in six consecutive Premier League matches and finished the 2023/24 season as United’s top scorer with 16 goals.
As the 2024/25 campaign got underway, his form remained inconsistent. He hit a purple patch with five goals in six games under Rúben Amorim but then endured a staggering 21-game goal drought before finally scoring against Leicester City last week.
What United think about Højlund despite reports
Earlier this week, it was reported that Højlund’s representatives had started work behind the scenes to assess where his future may lie should he depart Old Trafford.
It was claimed that, amid interest from the Serie A and German Bundesliga, a fresh start for the 22-year-old Danish international is under consideration.
However, despite these reports, sources have informed UtdDistrict that United have no current intention of letting the 22-year-old leave this summer.
UtdDistrict can confirm that there are no talks within the club surrounding unhappiness or animosity towards Højlund, with United’s staff focused on returning the player to his best form.
Højlund confirms he is happy at United
In recent days Højlund was asked about how he currently feels at United, after his goalscoring drought and a change of manager have left questions marks surrounding him.
The Dane responded by explaining he is happy under the Portuguese head coach and is completely focused on succeeding at Old Trafford despite the recent media speculation.
“I’m focused on the task with Rúben, because that project is incredibly exciting, but Erik was of course one of the reasons why I moved to Manchester United,” Højlund explained while on international duty.
“He was doing something good and was a talented coach, but it didn’t work out, and that’s how it is.
“I’m still very happy to be at Manchester United. It’s the club I’ve always dreamed of playing for. And I’m really happy for Rúben. He’s a cool character and a cool person.”
