“I could see it…” Manchester United star handed “massive” boost amid Leicester City performance
One Manchester United star has been handed a “massive” boost amid a 3-0 Premier League victory against Leicester City on Sunday evening in the midlands.
Manchester United delivered a commanding 3-0 win over Leicester City, with goals from Rasmus Højlund, Alejandro Garnacho, and Bruno Fernandes securing three crucial points and lifting Rúben Amorim’s side to 13th in the Premier League.
The match started evenly, with both sides creating early openings, but it was United who found the breakthrough just past the half-hour mark. Fernandes played a pinpoint pass into Højlund’s path, and the Danish striker coolly slotted home to give his team the lead.
Leicester pushed for an equaliser before the break, with Wilfred Ndidi and Patson Daka both threatening, but United’s defence held firm to maintain their advantage heading into half-time.
Early in the second half, Ayden Heaven was forced off on a stretcher, with Toby Collyer coming on as his replacement. Garnacho thought he had doubled United’s lead shortly after, only for his effort to be ruled offside. However, the winger made amends ten minutes later, turning sharply before rifling a brilliant finish into the net to make it 2-0.
With the result all but sealed, Fernandes added the finishing touch in the closing minutes, curling in a stunning strike to wrap up a dominant 3-0 victory for Amorim’s men.
Højlund’s “massive” boost vs Leciester
Højlund’s great finish against Leicester was his first goal for the club in 99 days, ending a 21-game barren run.
Speaking to Sky Sports, former United defender Phil Jones explained that Højlund’s finish is a “massive” boost for the 22-year-old, and that it’s a reward for good performances across the last few weeks.
Yeah, massive. He needed that,” Jones said when asked what impact the goal will have on Højlund. “I could see it in the last few weeks, he had that hunger in his eyes, especially Thursday night [vs Real Sociedad].
“He really, you could see he’s almost trying too hard to score. He’s found himself in the right places on Thursday night a couple of times, but just didn’t quite come off, but that’ll do him a world of good.”
Amorim heaps praise on Højlund
Højlund’s finish was by no means an easy one, and this is something Amorim himself recognised, explaining it’s a shame that there is now a two-week break with the player just getting back into form.
“It’s a difficult goal and difficult control right foot,” Amorim explained to Sky Sports. So it’s it’s it’s a shame we are going to stop for national teams.
“We will return with confidence, but it’s just one win away we have to continue when we return.”
Højlund will now head off with teammates Patrick Dorgu and Christian Eriksen to the Danish national team, where they are set to play Portugal twice in the nations league quarter finals.
