One of Manchester United’s stars has been handed a 2/10 rating for his performance on Tuesday evening after “lashing out” during the tie.

Manchester United saw nine players jet off to their national teams during the October international break, allowing them some respite from the turmoil at Old Trafford.

Manuel Ugarte started both games for Uruguay; however, he came off towards the end of their second game with an apparent pain in his leg, which will cause concern for Erik ten Hag.

Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes played for Portugal. At the same time, Lisandro Martínez has a role to play for Argentina, although he did not start either fixture and only came on for 17 minutes on Tuesday evening.

Joshua Zirkzee started the Netherlands’ first game of the week against Hungary and came on as a substitute against Germany, while Matthijs de Ligt was on the bench for both. He played nine minutes in the first game and did not feature in the second.

However, the club’s best performer over the break was undoubtedly Christian Eriksen, who started against Spain and Switzerland for Denmark.

Although he had minimal impact against the former, Eriksen scored one and assisted a second as Denmark drew 2-2 with Switzerland. However, his teammates and international compatriot Ramsus Højlund did not receive the same praise.

A bad night for Rasmus

Højlund played 57 minutes of the tie and, following the full-time whistle was granted a 2/10 rating by Danish news outlet Ekstra Bladeta lower rating than any other player on the night.

Further, the outlet reported that Højlund looked like his barren run of goalscoring form for Denmark was haunting him and that he “lashed out” at multiple bad passes.

“The eagerness to perform is indisputable, but it almost seemed to become a problem,” they reported. “Højlund looked stressed and in several cases lashed out with his arms over bad passes.

“It probably plays a part in the fact that he is now without a goal for the national team for almost a year – and more than 10 hours. A statistic that seems to haunt him.”

Ten Hag has faith

Højlund has scored one goal for United so far this season, having recovered from a six-week hamstring issue sustained in pre-season.

He has started two matches, the most recent against FC Porto and Aston Villa, and came off the bench to replace Joshua Zirkzee in the three matches prior.

Speaking earlier this year, Ten Hag explained to reporters that the player needs to be given time but that his strong and resilient character will always get him through tough moments.

“Sometimes, it is going up and down, and he also, before [last] winter, he struggled to get his first goal in the Premier League, but there you see, he is a very strong character.

“Sometimes, you have downs, but I am sure he will fight his way, and he is very eager for every match, so it can be there, also in every match, to return his form.”
