24 touches, 1 assist – Manchester United decision backfires as target “revolutionising” his new club’s attack

Manchester United have been left with egg on their face as one of their January transfer targets is completely “revolutionising” his new club’s attack.

Manchester United have struggled for goals so far under Rúben Amorim amid a series of injuries and poor form have left Old Trafford crowds groaning.

While Joshua Zirkzee has performed well on the pitch of late, he has just two goals in his last 14 appearances, while Rasmus Højlund has not found the back of the net in his last 15 fixtures.

Amad, the club’s top scorer this season with nine goals, has been ruled out for the rest of the season after an ankle injury in training, while creative outlet Kobbie Mainoo is set to miss the next six weeks through injury.

Across 2025 so far, the side have scored just 14 goals in ten games, far below expectations of a club such as Manchester United, with the only reinforcements in January being left wing-back Patrick Dorgu and young centre-back Ayden Heaven.

Although Dorgu is seen as a player who can contribute to the creativity in attack, United’s finishers are failing to score when opportunities are presented to them, leading to continued frustrations in and around the club.

United’s January transfer mistake

Despite reports at the end of the January window saying UNited were relaxed about not bringing in any emergency attacking reinforcements, many fans were rightly aghast when the window shut without any new forwards on the books while Marcus Rashford, Ethan Wheatley, and Antony all departing.

One player United were continually linked to during the opening weeks of the window was Randal Kolo Muani, although United never advanced their interest with Paris St. Germain and the player joined Juventus on loan for the rest of the season.

Despite being relatively low on the list of options at the Ligue 1 side, he has been fantastic so far in Italy and recently assisted Francisco Conceicao’s winning goal during a 1-0 victory over Inter Milan last week.

Despite having just 24 touches during the tie, Kolo Muani’s performance was lauded with praise as he started his fifth fixture in a row for the Turin outfit.

Kolo Muani “revolutionising” Juventus’ attack

It looks as if United’s decision is backfiring on all cylinders as Kolu Muani continues his fantastic form under Thiago Motta at Juventus.

In his second and third appearances, he scored back-to-back braces against Empoli and Como, with European football expert Zach Lowy expressing how remarkable the French player’s form has been.

Kolo Muani has been starting as a striker for Juventus with two forward midfielders beside him, which would have been a similar style to how he may have lined up under Amorim.

Further, the 3-4-3 that United deploy is similar to the one the French international played as Eintracht Frankfurt, and with the squad currently full of players who are not yet used to the style, he would have slotted in easily.

With Amad out for the season and United’s attacking players continuing to falter, the decision from United not to sign any forward, let alone someone such as Kolo Muani, looks even more bizarre with each passing result.
