Rúben Amorim is predicted to send Amad back to the wing-back position as Manchester United face Rangers in the Europa League on Thursday evening.

Manchester United prepare to host Rangers at Old Trafford on Thursday evening as they resume their Europa League campaign.

The start of 2025 has been a story of mixed fortunes for Rúben Amorim’s men. A hard-earned draw against Liverpool was followed by a commanding victory over Arsenal, sparking optimism. However, a laboured win over Southampton – despite Amad’s remarkable hat-trick – raised doubts, and a 3-1 defeat to Brighton further dampened spirits.

This fixture against Rangers offers United a crucial opportunity to bounce back and reignite support from the Old Trafford crowd. With the team entering as favourites, the pressure will be on to deliver a convincing display.

Sitting seventh in the Europa League standings – securely in the automatic qualification spots for the knockout stages – a victory would strengthen their grip on the top eight and provide a vital morale boost.

Amorim predicted to make six changes vs Rangers

United’s loss against Brighton was a grave cause for concern for United fans, with many feeling that after his error, André Onana should be dropped and Altay Bayındır handed another chance.

With Bayındır putting in a stunning performance against Arsenal, there is a good chance fans will get their wish.

In defence, Lisandro Martínez may return after sitting out the Brighton game, which may mean Leny Yoro drops to the bench. Matthijs de Ligt could also be afforded a rest with Noussair Mazraoui slotting into the right centre-back role.

Harry Maguire conducted the pre-match press conference alongside Amorim, meaning he in line to start, and may play as the middle man in the back three, with Martínez therefore on the left.

In midfield, it would be fantastic to see Toby Collyer gifted a chance to start after great performances off the bench, and he may be paired with Bruno Fernandes in midfield to give Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo a rest.

With United expected to dominate the ball, Amad may be moved back to right wing-back but be told to keep a high and attacking line when United have the ball.

t the same time, Diogo Dalot remains the club’s only realistic option on the left as Tyrell Malacia seems unfavoured by Amorim and is available for loan.

In attack, with Fernandes dropping back into midfield, Christian Eriksen may be handed a start on the right to connect with Amad, while Alejandro Garnacho may return to the starting line-up on the left – although Marcus Rashford was back in training on Wednesday.

Up front, Joshua Zirkzee started the game against Brighton and played 84 minutes, and many fans are hoping he will be allowed to keep his place ahead of Rasmus Højlund.

United predicted XI vs Rangers

Bayındır, Mazraoui, Maguire, Martínez, Amad, Collyer, Fernandes, Dalot, Eriksen, Garnacho, Zirkzee.
