Manchester United predicted XI vs Fulham as player who missed 14 games finally starts (FA Cup)
Rúben Amorim is predicted to start a player who has missed 14 games as Manchester United welcome Fulham to Old Trafford in the FA Cup on Sunday afternoon.
Manchester United resume their FA Cup campaign on Sunday as they host Fulham at Old Trafford in the fifth round.
United’s path in the competition has seen them overcome Arsenal in a dramatic penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw at the Emirates, before a stoppage-time winner from Harry Maguire secured a 2-1 victory over Leicester City.
Rúben Amorim’s men enter this fixture following a 3-2 Premier League win against Ipswich Town, though another shaky defensive performance has done little to quiet their critics.
With United sitting 14th in the league, lifting the FA Cup looks like their best route to Europa League qualification—unless they can go the distance in Europe and earn a Champions League place.
Amorim predicted to give rare start
Despite recent errors, André Onana is expected to continue his string of starts in goal as cup goalkeeper Altay Bayındır has been ruled out of the weekend’s game.
However, Amorim may choose to hand a start to Victor Lindelöf, who recently missed 14 games in a row before making a last-minute return to action against Ipswich.
With Harry Maguire having started and played 90 minutes in United’s last five games, Amorim will likely want to rest the English defender.
Leny Yoro is expected to continue at left centre-back, meaning De Ligt could shuffle back into his preferred middle spot, with Lindelöf picking up as the right centre-back in the back three.
There is also the chance that Amorim could hand a debut to 18-year-old defender Ayden Heaven, who signed from Arsenal in January.
As for the wing-backs, Patrick Dorgu is suspended, meaning Diogo Dalot is expected to shift to the left, while Noussair Mazraoui returns to the starting XI and plays on the right amid a lack of other options.
In the middle of the park, Bruno Fernandes is expected to keep his place, while Casemiro could come in to replace Manuel Ugarte to rest the player ahead of a crunch clash against Real Sociedad.
In attack, there is a real lack of options. Joshua Zirkzee, Alejandro Garnacho, and Rasmus Højlund are Amorim’s only senior attacking options.
Chido Obi will be in the squad after he was kept from playing the U18’s win over Arsenal on Friday evening, but if he plays, it will likely be from the bench.
United predicted XI vs Fulham
Onana, Lindelöf, De Ligt, Yoro, Mazraoui, Casemiro, Fernandes, Dalot, Zirkzee, Højlund, Garnacho.
