Rúben Amorim is predicted to make a controversial call as his Manchester United team line up to face Everton in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

Manchester United will be aiming to bounce back when they face Everton in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

Rúben Amorim’s side are under pressure after a narrow 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in their last outing, a result that left them 15th in the table.

United will be hoping for a repeat of their dominant 4-0 victory over Everton in November, when Joshua Zirkzee and Marcus Rashford both scored twice in what remains Amorim’s most emphatic win to date.

However, since then, former United manager David Moyes has taken charge at Goodison Park and has overseen an upturn in form, guiding Everton to 14th place—one point ahead of United after 25 matches.

Two injured United stars return

André Onana is expected to keep his place in the team despite his blunder against Tottenham for James Maddison’s goal, in part because Altay Bayındır remains out with an injury.

However, Leny Yoro is expected to step back into the fold as the left centre-back following his erturnvery from illness, while Matthijs de Ligt may continue in the middle of the back three and Noussair Mazraoui to his right.

Although Harry Maguire would be in contention to start in the middle, Amorim seems to trust De Ligt’s on-the-ball abilities and will want stability across his back line after Lisandro Martínez’s long-term injury.

As for the wing-backs, Diogo Dalot and Patrick Dorgu will likely continue on the right and left flanks, respectively, although many will be hoping that the latter will be given license to push higher than against Tottenham.

Amorim confirmed on Friday afternoon that Manuel Ugarte had returned to training after missing last week’s game, and assuming he is fit to play, he will replace Casemiro in the middle of the park.

Despite criticism in recent weeks, Bruno Fernandes is expected to continue as a deeper player alongside Ugarte.

As for the front three, Amorim may choose to make a controversial call and play the same trio who started against Tottenham, despite their lack of goals.

Alejandro Garnacho has not scored in 18 appearances, while Rasmus Højlund has not netted in 15 games. Zirkzee has just two goals in his last 18 matches, but has played well of late as a right-sided attacking midfeilder.

However, with the only other options for Amorim being Academy players – who he has said he is reluctant to play as he wants to protect them from Premier League critics – he may have no choice but to field the same front three.

Fans will hope that Amorim may give further minutes to 17-year-old Chido Obi should he be selected in the squad for a second game running.

United predicted XI vs Everton
