Man Utd paying close attention as Spurs stance on Yoane Wissa deal ‘unclear’ after Mohammed Kudus agreement

Manchester United are now paying close attention to Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of Brentford star Yoane Wissa as it could impact their deal for Bryan Mbeumo.

Manchester United remain in active talks over what could become their third signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon, as they look to finalise a deal for Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo.

Ruben Amorim is eager to bolster his attacking options further, having already added Cunha to his frontline. However, negotiations with Brentford have been slow-moving.

United’s initial £55 million bid for the 25-year-old was rejected in early June, and a follow-up offer—matching that amount with an extra £7.5 million in performance-related add-ons—was also turned down.

Mbeumo and Brentford are both reportedly frustrated over the time-consuming nature of the negotiations and now there is a major development which could impact the deal as Tottenham Hotspur consider a move for Yoane Wissa.

United paying close attention as Spurs stance on Yoane Wissa deal unclear

Spurs’ interest in Wissa emerged this week and it has been explained that Brentford would only be willing to sell one of him or Mbeumo. This means that a potential deal between Thomas Frank and his former side for the DR Congo international would put the Mbeumo move into jeopardy.

Developments did occur on Wednesday, with Spurs reaching an agreement to sign Mohammed Kudus from West Ham for £55 million.

Some have suggested that this might mean the North London club do not move for Wissa despite playing a different position to Kudus. They have already spent £30 million on signing Mathys Tel permanently.

Reports from The Telegraph claim that it remains ‘unclear’ whether Frank’s side will still pursue a move for Wissa after the Kudus deal.

United will be paying close attention to any developments. Talks have not even occurred between Spurs and Brentford, so if they start moving for a deal, you would imagine that United would try and close their agreement for Mbeumo.

United cannot let Mbeumo deal slip

There would not have been panic when it emerged that Spurs were interested in Mbeumo a few weeks ago due to the fact that the Reds know the 25-year-old only wants to join United.

That gave them an upper-hand in negotiations but if there is now serious interest in Wissa, the picture has changed significantly.

Brentford will not sell both of the players and if there is a genuine choice, you would think they would rather let Wissa leave and so United need to act fast.

Taking time on the deal hasn’t been a huge issue but that’s only as long as an agreement eventually comes. United cannot let this slip after working on it for over a month.
