Rúben Amorim is predicted to make a much-needed change as Manchester United line up to face Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Tuesday evening.
After a two-week international break, Rúben Amorim’s Manchester United return to Premier League action with an away fixture against Nottingham Forest on Tuesday, 1 April.
United had gathered strong momentum prior to the break, recording consecutive victories over Real Sociedad, comfortably beating Leicester City 3-0, and securing a valuable 1-1 draw with Arsenal.
Bruno Fernandes has been pivotal during this run, scoring five times and providing two assists in his last three appearances under Amorim.
The match at Forest offers an opportunity to maintain their recent form, though Amorim will undoubtedly have one eye on crucial upcoming fixtures, including the Manchester Derby and a Europa League quarter-final against Olympique Lyonnais.
Amorim to make much-needed change
With United having 16 days of rest between their fixtures due to the international break, Amorim has had plenty of time to assess how he will approach facing Forest.
André Onana will start in goal despite the recent returns of Altay Bayındır and Tom Heaton, although a change is expected in defence.
With Ayden Heaven injured, Leny Yoro’s return means he is likely to slot into the left centre-back role against Forest, with Matthijs de Ligt in the middle and Noussair Mazraoui on the right of the back three. Many see this as Amorim’s best available centre-back trio amid injuries.
As for the wing-backs, Diogo Dalot is likely to be reinstated as a right wing-back, while Patrick Dorgu will come in on the left flank after completing his three-game domestic ban following a red card against Ipswich Town earlier in March.
The change Amorim is likely to make that many will agree is much-needed is reinstalling Casemiro in the middle of the park. The Brazilian played three games in a row, both legs against Sociedad and the Aresnal tie, but was rested as Manuel Ugarte started against Leicester.
However, with Ugarte only recently travelling back from international duty in South America and Casemiro having taken full advantage of the break in club football, Amorim should start him alongside Fernandes in midfield in Nottingham.
As for the front three, Mason Mount may see his first minutes in over three months following his return to training a few weeks ago, although it’s thought this will more likely come as a substitute.
Alejandro Garnacho and Joshua Zirkzee have played well on the right and left sides of the attack, respectively, of late. Rasmus Højlund followed up his good striker against Leicester with a goal for Denmark against Portugal and will almost certainly keep his place up front.
