Kobbie Mainoo is set to sign a new contract with Manchester United, marking another milestone in his incredible rise to prominence at Old Trafford.

Kobbie Mainoo, the 2005-born talented young midfielder from Stockport, made a name for himself at Manchester United. Having been with the club’s youth academy since the age of nine, his development into a first-team player has been incredible to witness.

Mainoo’s standout performances within the academy caught the eye of Erik ten Hag‘s coaching staff, earning him a place in Manchester United’s 2023 pre-season tour.

He made an immediate impact, demonstrating his technical ability, vision, and composure on the ball against Arsenal. Still, an injury against Real Madrid during the tour sidelined him for four months.

However, once he returned, he was awarded the Player of the Match award during his first start for the club in November 2023 and has been a mainstay in Ten Hag’s side ever since.

The 19-year-old was so impressive throughout the 2023/24 season that Gareth Southgate chose to start the star for England in the knockout stages of the 2024 European Championships. The squad ended runners-up in the final against Spain.

Nevertheless, Mainoo has continued to shine, and the club are set to reward his hard work and brilliant performances with a new contract.

According to the Manchester Evening News, United are set to take “the next step” by tying Kobbie Mainoo, widely regarded as the best player to come out of their recent academy set-up, down to a new long-term contract.

It is said that the agreement on a new deal is now “close” and that the teenager will receive an increase on his £20,000 a week salary, making him one of the current first-team squad’s lowest-earning players.

Mainoo is said to be viewed as “a key part” of co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s long-term project at the club.

He was recently called up to Lee Carsley’s England squad for the October internationals but had to withdraw due to a potential injury scare. It is expected that an update will be made on his fitness next Thursday.
