Manchester United ‘rejected’ by wildcard manager before extending Erik ten Hag’s contract – report
According to a fresh report, Manchester United were rejected by a wildcard manager before they extended Erik ten Hag’s contract last summer.
Erik ten Hag has found himself under increasing pressure this season as his Manchester United side fails to live up to the expectations set at the beginning of the campaign.
They currently sit 14th in the Premier League table and have drawn their opening two Europa League ties with inconsistent and poor performances, forcing some fans to call for a change.

Ten Hag had his contract extended by another season at the end of the last campaign after Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS leadership team undertook a season review, but the requirements have not been met so far.
While many expected that the Dutchman would be sacked earlier this week, no such communication has been made, and he is currently preparing for his side’s upcoming fixture against Brentford.
During the season review, many other names, such as Thomas Tuchel and Thomas Frank, were considered for the position, speaking to the club. However, a fresh story emerging from Germany has named a further candidate that the club chose to contact.
According to German transfer journalist Christian Falk, United contacted 42-year-old VfB Stuttgart manager Sebastian Hoeneß before extending Ten Hag’s contract.
United called Hoeneß to ask if he would be available for the United managerial position and find a possible solution to transfer him from the Bundesliga outfit. However, according to the report, Hoeneß chose to decline the offer.
Should United choose to sack Ten Hag in the coming weeks or months, wildcard choice Hoeneß may be a man who comes back into consideration. However, many other names, such as Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim, are also emerging as potential candidates.
